  • Spirit of the Bear, Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Crane, Leopard and Monkey

At the Special Wudang Taiiquan course last month Sifu was very generous to demonstrate the spirit of the five Shaolin animals plus the bear and monkey!

"Then how could chi kung overcome diseases where the cause is unknown or when there is no cure? The question is actually incorrect. The expressions "the cause is unknown" and "there is no cure" are applicable only in the Western medical paradigm. The expressions no longer hold true in the chi kung paradigm. In the chi kung paradigm the cause is known, and there is a cure."

      Thanks for sharing Mark Bro!

Our Sifu just has it. He is a Kungfu genius. He walks his talk with such a grace.

That said we should cherish Sifu and take care of him very good.

            Spirit of the Tiger

Although posted elsewhere, it's worth mentioning again the two recent videos recently put up by Sifu. The tiger is indeed very fast and agile! What an awesome course this year at the UK Summer Camp!

Hello. This is my first post here.
I don't take instruction from a Shaolin Wahnam Sifu, but I am taking instruction in Shaolin Kung Fu.
It seems like, looking at the videos that Grand master Wong Kiew Kit gets into the spirit of the animals.
And that he may, when practicing alone, get into the spirit more.
Myself, I have noticed steps to becoming the animal in a form. Like when I was learning a praying mantis form, I understood the movements better when I saw a praying mantis defending against a curious cat.
I could see why the movements were executed like that. When I see the Grand master do those forms, I can see the animal. Not just someone doing a form.
The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.

                            Dear Wehanninkahtain,
Sifu has been asked the question many time over the years and he has always given very similiar answers.

"We dont try and become the animals, we emulate the qualities of the animals such as the courage of the tiger "

                            Peace

                              Hi Wehanninkahtain,

Welcome to the forum. Good to see other Shaolin practitioners here.

Marvellous isn't it? You are probably already aware but there is a wealth of information on the animal styles of southern kungfu on the site, and in Sifu's book Art of Shaolin Kungfu. Though nothing comes close to learning in person from the master.

                              The classical inspiration!

Manifesting the spirit of particular animals is one of the joys of training Shaolin Kungfu.
