Howdy to all the Kwooners,
Being the husband of a PhD student I've become more accustomed to doing research into my practice of Taijiquan. I find that the research and articles regarding the medical benefits of Taijiquan or Qigong, that are easily and readily available, are few and far between.
I would like to suggest starting a forum dedicated to the listing of research articles no matter how small or large they may be. I see many Sifus putting up new websites regarding healing and benefits and all kinds of greatness, but, without proper medical research articles backing up the statements, the websites tend be less credible and really the results of having that website may not be as favorable.
I read an article on Shaolin.org by Sigung Wong and was surprised that the information was not readily provided. (http://www.shaolin.org/answers/sp-is...ang-li-da.html)
It would really help to actually provide the research article. I've put effort towards finding the above mentioned research and other related articles from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (http://nccam.nih.gov/) and I've tried contacting a Hospital in Sweden for their medical research, with no success. Because my wife is a graduate student and has access to many scholarly articles, I've even asked for her access so that I could do research on Qigong and Taijiquan and pretty much came up empty-handed at the University of Florida. Surprising, since it is closely bound to Shands Hospital which is huge on medical research and is a teaching hospital as well for UF's Med students.
So, providing these types of articles directly would only be of great benefit to our cause.
Being an IT Director and having taken marketing courses, I would like to urge our community to help provide a robust database of valid evidence for our amazing art.
Just to get us started, here are a few articles:

"Among the clinical studies reviewed, although some lacked a valid control group, it seems that there is a consistent tendency that the group treated with qigong therapy in combination with conventional methods had a more significant improvement and/or a better survival rate than the group treated with conventional methods alone. Some studies reported complete remission from late-stage cancer or metastasized cancer, which is considered an impossible result through the use of conventional medicine alone."

"She started practicing Taiji Five-Element Self-Recovery System (TFESRS) in April 1993 and stopped all other medication and therapies. Six months later, her condition had changed dramatically – CT Scan showed that her metastatic cancer in bone had disappeared completely, while other chronic dis-eases she had before (such as diabetes, fatty liver, prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc etc.) had all dis-appeared as well. She has since enjoyed full health for the past 8 years. Regular checkups have found no new metastases or recurrences."
Unless you are teaching and learning this art for free, anything that helps you become more credible, has the potential to create more revenue.
Highest Respects,
