  • What Would You Like to See More of On the Forum? (Open Call for Ideas)

    Dear Family and Friends,

There are some plans afoot to make our forum even more useful, interesting and enjoyable. More on that very soon. (I couldn't resist dropping a clue)

    In the meantime,

What would you like to see more of on the forum?

Any ideas for topics of interest, epic threads, special requests, things you would like to share?

Feel free. Ideas are like energy, the more you let out, the more will come to you.

    Okay. I'll get started.

I would like to see a thread on "The Greatest Kungfu Movies of All Time"

    Yours,

    Charles

More threads like this for a start, thanks Charles!

I guess in general I would just like to see more people posting, more instructors posting, feels like maybe there was more of this in the old days. I think its not that there are less of us, or that we are saying less, because I believe that loads of people still post lots of this stuff about kungfu and chi kung, but they post it on facebook now instead. Whereas I far prefer the forum.

I'd like to see more about kungfu against other martial arts, kickboxers etc.

I'm really interested in the current thread about NLP and hopefully one about hypnosis.

I think your idea about great kungfu movies is great - I for example love the Pai Mei scenes in Kill Bill, which are supposedly based on Shaw brothers movies - yet I can never find a single scene that is half as good as the Tarantino version!

I'd like to hear more about how to cook delicious Chinese food.

I like threads where people talk about the books they are interested in, or their professions, or their career plans, plans to run businesses etc. The spread of the school means that there must be people who could educate and advise about everything from car mechanics to law I think, I would enjoy that.

      Hi Paul Siheng,

Thanks for your response. Yes, looking around the internet makes me realize what a great opportunity we have here on our forum.

I like all of your ideas, and will encourage some students and instructors to start or contribute to those threads. Which one (s) will you start?

I remember the scene with Pak Mei in Kill Bill being very good. I want to make a point to watch more kungfu movies, so if someone else doesn't start that thread soon, I'm going to.

Regarding delicious Chinese cooking, I just read in Sifu's "The Way of the Master" a simple but delicious recipe for spicy cucumbers. So much to be gained from that fabulous book!

As far as getting the forum more active, I have come up with a pretty good idea, and received Sifu's support to go ahead with it. I'm just working out some details now before going live, but I am confident it is going to be a lot of good fun.

      That's all for now.

        Dear Shaolin Wahnam Family,

Thank you Charles Siheng for starting this wonderful thread.

I would love to read more about Applications of the Shaolin Arts for our daily lives. I remember many Q&A threads where Sifu shared with us multiple applications for daily life and it was incredibly enriching and inspiring. I have myself used many of those applications for many events in my life.

With Love, Care and Shaolin Salute,

        Santi

          Shaolin Wahnam Podcast?

Has anyone ever considered/would it even be at all possible or proper to create a Shaolin Wahnam video podcast? (via Youtube, this forum, what have you) It could cover a different topic a couple of times a week, from past masters, to specific skills, sets, arts, styles, ideas, combat/life/philosophic situations, have guests, interviews, call-ins, contests, demonstrations, personal experiences, famous stories, etc.

I personally am a huge fan of the podcast medium, especially video podcasts, and follow many which I play while exercising (not chi kung, of course) or working on some project for my classes, or even just when very interested or very bored, and with the beauty of Youtube or itunes everything is there for me to peruse at my own pace.

Just wondering if anyone else had thought of this as a potential idea for some one or several of the more experienced members of our school and whether or not this is at all doable or proper as well.

I'd like to see more of the Q&A threads that are associated with courses. Those have been great.

              Dear Charles Sisook,

I would love to see comprehensive end-of-the-year surveys that reach many people. Maybe give a ready-made form to the instructors who then ask their students to fill in their own opinions? Designing good questionaries can be difficult though.

              With sincere respect,
              Olli
