  • Wifi, Signals, Radiation

    Hello all,

I recently watched this video in which David Wolf measures the electrical signals and radiation that hit him while he is using a computer with wifi etc. He also sits on some bed with some technology that 'grounds'him to remove these signals
    Here is the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&fe...&v=idXzSZBHf1g

I wanted to ask you 2 questions,

1 Do you think these electrical signals are strong enough to have a significant bad effect on our bodies/minds?

2 Is Chi Kung enough protection or do you think we need some technology that actively protects us from these frequencies?

I notice myself that when I spend a long time on computer I always feel worse, could it just be me?

I have read different opinions on the matter, I would be interested to hear what our members have to say.

    Hi Mike,

I don't think it's just you. Generally I prefer to have at least a 20 minute gap between finishing my practice and using any electronics, not just computers or phones. It's not just in theory but I can feel pretty clearly the effect it has on me, especially after a practice session.

I couldn't say much specifically about cleansing the effects of electronics through chi kung. Personally I think Cosmos Chi Kung is enough for cleansing any harmful effects, but as always prevention is better. That can be tricky when a lot of us require being on a computer for extended hours for our work. In my case I just do my best to get off computer/phone etc. when I can.

All the new smart phones coming out, while extremely useful, are essentially small computers and, as far as I've felt, have a far stronger charge than a regular old-style cell phone. Luckily the speakers are much better, so you can keep it away from your head more. I also try to keep electronics off of my bed and turn everything off at night, and while I use my phone as my alarm I turn off wifi and LTE at night. Maybe my seniors with a lot more force than me don't have any issues, but it feels better for me.

    All the best,
    Andrew

      Hey,

While I feel its true electronics have an effect, I believe Chi Kung alone is definitely enough protection.
If I spend a long long time on the computer and skip out on practice, I dont feel as good also.

Remembering what Sifu said, Chi Kung lets you do better at anything you do. So with Chi Kung you can spend longer on computer and feel better than if you didnt practice it.

      Best,

      Jas

Interesting topic. I have actually done some (personal) investigation into this by testing people regarding effects of EMR (Eletro Magnetic Radiation) exposure. Please don't ask me how I did this.

The test included people with various levels of Chi Kung practice (from none to regular high level practice over several years) and then using certain protection products I sell . In fact these tests were part of my evaluation of the protection products which I completed before agreeing to sell them. I was able to confirm the effects on the sample group and this is why I am selling the products.

Interestingly, those who practice high level Chi Kung regularly for some time (I was not able to identify a minimum time) do not actually need the protection products UNLESS they regularly expose themselves to high dosages of EMR OR are particularly EMR-sensitive. I, for example, use the protection products as an additional precaution but, effectively, have no need for them under my normal living/working conditions.

As with anything potentially harmful, Safety First should be primary. My recommendation:
        1. minimise exposure
        2. practice high level Chi Kung to reduce effects of exposure and help reverse any negative effects already experienced
        3. use protection products (but only ones proven to work --- there is a lot of rubbish out there)

Is Qigong enough protection? That depends entirely on the practitioner and his/her lifestyle. It's all relative. You can't make a blanket statement like, "Qigong protects against this in 100% of people."

I've been practicing these arts since 1997. Do you think that what applies to me also applies to a beginner in my class? Do you think that electromagnetic stress will affect a healthy person in the same way that it affects a person with stage 4 cancer?

In my experience, wifi, cell phones, and other forms of EMR do have a measurable, negative effect on humans. Should you worry about it? No, because worry blocks Qi flow. But should you do something to avoid EMR? That depends on your health, your qigong level, and your lifestyle.

I wrote an article about the stress threshold which explains this in more detail:

I'm a lot like most Americans. I live in the suburbs. I work 60-70 hours per week. I have student loans and credit card bills. I empty the dishwasher and walk the dog. But unlike most Americans, I live a stress-free life.

Where I work, there is a great deal of EMR, thanks to wireless routers and antenna boosters. For people in the corporate and finance sectors, this is probably inevitable. At the very least, there are computers and wi-fi everywhere.

Qigong certainly mitigates the effects of the EMR. In my entire department, only another colleague who has the natural constitution of an ox and I, everyone falls sick and complains of headaches every single week. It is quite clear that the Sick Building Syndrome is infecting everyone.

However, i think it is silly to think that just because qigong is effective, I should willingly let myself be subject to this hazard. It is like deliberately choosing to ingest toxic food just because i can move them out of my bowels the next day.

So, at the expense of seeming troublesome, I have moved my desk at least once, and when that didn't work, I wrote to the big boss, explaining the problem. I think the problem is being sorted out now, including shutting down some of the emitters. Most people would not dare to bother the big boss, but my Shaolin and Taijiquan training has given me a spirit of pro-activism, and taught me how to use strategy.

So, in short, minimise exposure, as Andrew has suggested, but if that is not enough, do something to get rid of the source of the problem.

On smartphones, I recall this very interesting book, which most of you have probably heard about, if not read: The 4-Hour Body.

In that book, the author Tim Ferris describes how carrying a cell phone in his pocket so devastated his swimmies that he had a shockingly low sperm count. After he, ahem, abstained from putting his phone in his pocket, within a couple of months, sperm production had sky-rocketed. He eliminated other possible causes of the increased production so the cell phone radiation is probably a major factor.

I don't know if people are being deliberately obtuse, but whenever I tell other men to stay away from environmental factors that can damage their sperm, they scoff with the inane remarks to the effect of “that’s good. Then I don’t need to worry about an accidental baby”, or “I don’t feel any thing wrong”. It is a sign of our degenerated times that men actually want to be infertile and that their senses are so deadened that they cannot hear their bodies’ cry for help. The ignorance is also staggering. I wonder where these people get the idea that sperm is only for making babies. What about the relation to testosterone levels, sexual vigour and general vitality?

I once told a friend of mine about the relationship between low sperm count and carrying his phone in his pocket, which he always did. His reply:"What's the alternative? Carry it in my breast pocket and die of a heart attack?"

                Couldn't argue with that

I vote for minimal use of mobiles, iPads etc. Do we really need it every second of our lives? do we have to phone for minutes or even hours via mobiles? I bet: we don't. Doctors, advocates or taxi drivers may have to use their mobiles constantly. But do we?

Everyone has the chance to reflect about EMF and to try to find solutions not to be overflowed by radiation. We cannot avoid them, but at least we can be careful. And, even doing Chi Kung (I am not yet very advanced in Chi Kung, and so I do not know how much it already protects me against radiation): it's good to care for our family members staying with us.

The only thing my husband and I use more often is our computers; our mobiles are only for very short phone calls (and mostly stay at home when being outside!), and we have no iPad, only a laptop for journeys. This is enough for us. Our bedrooms are free from electric devices.
For protecting our computers at home we both use a Medisend protect:

(I cannot explain in English, please check the site if interested.)
At least I do not know how much it helps or not; it is sort of precaution. But at least we both feel very well, and that is what counts.

Funny story, when I was teaching English for an educational company in Huhot, Inner Mongolia back in 2008, many of the middle-level bosses carried three cell phones! One was their "personal" cell phone and two were "company" cell phones that they had to have with them at all times (they were on call 24 hours/day because they handled situations with the company's branches in other companies). They didn't seem very happy about that!

I carry my cell phone mostly as a timepiece. Maybe I should just buy a watch, I rarely make phone calls anymore...
I like making silly videos (including kung fu ones!) every so often on YouTube and taking pictures of weird things on Instagram.

I only recently got a smart phone, and for me the heavier impact was actually the mental distraction rather than the energetic effect. It's so easy to let your thoughts wander because of the devices and constantly wonder if there's a new email or message or whatever other nonsense, so I had to make more of an effort to stay present and throw away that distraction.

It helps me to give myself guidelines, like putting it out of sight and limiting email/social usage to once a day max, which is plenty. Also helpful was turning off notifications about any time a new email or message came in. If I'm expecting an important email or meet a nice girl then I'll check more frequently.

Anthony Sipak, you're right about the relativity of chi kung practice. To make my original answer more accurate, Cosmic Chi Kung can be enough protection considering various factors.

This discussion in quite timely since, I was recently discussing with my wife various things we can do to further increase the comfort of our flat and turning off our ipads, laptop, phones etc was one of her suggestions. It could just be coincidence, but in the few days since we've implemented it, we've both been waking up fresher.

After he, ahem, abstained from putting his phone in his pocket, within a couple of months, sperm production had sky-rocketed.
I hadn't thought about this before but I'm not suprised by it. I'll look for alternative places to put my phone.

I think even though our Chi Kung is a fantastic protection against negative influences such as EMR, it would be foolish to ignore simple changes we can make to minimise exposure to such things. For example, we can eat what we wish without worrying, however a healthy diet will only enhance our results, rather than our practice working to offset the effects of a bad diet.

Thanks to everyone for the great replies so far.

The fact is many of us have a mobile phone and use it regularly. For that reason I'm thinking wouldn't it make more sense to find a gadget that offsets the radiation of a mobile phone than to look for another place on the body to irradiate? I don't want to reduce sperm count any more than I want any of my other organs to malfunction...
