        Dear Friends,
The guided historic walks of Irish cities continued last Saturday with a tour of Cork. Starting at St Finbarres Cathedral – an iconic building in the city - our journey took us in time from the days of Saint Finbarre to the present and geographically from the cathedral, through the city centre, and onto Shandon on the Northside. A local historian and politician, Kieran McCarthy, was our excellent guide for the day.
Having lived in Cork for over twelve years I was quite amazed at how much I learned about the city and its evolution over the years. There was so much detail in the streets that I had missed before, detail which offers a glimpse into the lives and customs of Cork people long dead.
One of the highlights for me was Kieran talking about the position of the quay walls on Proby’s Quay in times gone by. They extended to where streets are now built and listening to him describe the past, while watching the cars zip by in the present, I gained a small sense of the continuing passage of time. Standing there, listening to him, the ‘then’ and the ‘now’ offered a beautiful contrast to the one thing they had in common: the place. It somehow allowed a sense of perspective onto the many generations of men and women who called Cork their home from a time before even my Grandfather was born.
        An excellent day out.
Thank you Sifu for starting the scholar tours and thank you to Kieran for being a wonderful guide. And thanks to all the other warriors for making the day so enjoyable.
        Some photos to follow.
        Best Wishes,
        Kevin

I had a taste of the Scholar Warrior project last week during the Wedding Celebration week in Penang.

I participated in the Singing and/or Voice course. I have to say that it was very unique and a lot of fun. Certainly people can benefit by broadening their horizons in a course like this.

Some more pictures from the recent scholar tour of Cork City.
As promised, the leaning tower of Cork!
Well okay, the leaning apse of Cork is more accurate. The apse forms part of Christchurch on South Main street (which will soon be reopened as part of a well-known arts centre). You can see steel straps bracing the apse in the picture.

We visited the Cork Vision centre as part of the tour and spent a while examining its scaled physical-model of the city: a wonderful means to get an overview of the city.
And yes, that is a crocodile made of plastic bottles perched on the model.

Maybe once I will try the singing course because to be honest singing was always my weakest point!

                              Dear Shaolin Wahnam Family,

Just a reminder for the Irish students that the Limerick city Scholar Tour takes place on November 13th. Meeting at 9.30am. The tour will finish around 1pm when we will have a group lunch and Shaolin Chi Kung/Kungfu and Wahnam Tai Chi Chuan training afterwards.

We will take in the sights of this medieval city and Hugh Lane Gallery under the guidance of a professional tour guide.

These tours are extremely interesting and an excellent way to enhance our knowledge of our beautiful country.

We will add some photos for everybody after the tour as there are some beautiful pieces of architecture in Limerick city also.

I look forward to seeing you there!

                              Smile from the Heart,

                                Limerick Tour

                                Greetings Wahnam Family,

The limerick tour was a great day out and fun was had by all. Our tour guide, Noel Curtain gave us a great tour of the city, bringing alive the history of Limerick and telling some funny and interesting stories about his time as tour guide to the Clintons and the going ons of the CIA.

He started off the tour with an interesting fact that Limerick is divided into three parts: Newtown Perry, English Town and Irish Town, Newtown Perry being the modern part of Limerick with English and Irish Town being the oldest part, where you would find Kings John Castle and the border walls of the old city. This set the tour of to a great start and made the tour enjoyable to follow as it flowed from one part of Limerick and its history to the next.

After the tour finished we had a short walk around limerick and went for lunch with some great conversations and laughs. I enjoyed the day and would just like to thank Sifu for organising and giving us the chance to meet up and go on these tours and all I can say is i,m looking forward to the next one.

                                Padraig.
