I want to thank you for that moment by the water fountain when you told me of your experiences while filming. It was inspiring and really put me in an amazing state for the next session with Sifu.
Josh,
I don't think there are sufficient words in the English language to describe how much I miss you.
Hi everyone,
as mentioned earlier by Sifu Markus of Finland, we took a few snapshots at the Four Gates course and I´ve now (finally) uploaded mine to my nice, shiney new Flickr account. They are available for viewing here:
Thank you for the photo's. They bring back great memories of such a wonderful couple of days with everyone at the course. I hope everyone is enjoying Cross Roads and I look forward to training with you again in the future.
Hello - which is the most accessible book out there that covers the 4 gates? I would like at attend a course but in the mean time a book would be nice?
In fact, our Sifu, Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit, has authored a book called The Complete Book of Shaolin which features the Cross Roads at Four Gates Set and Two-man sparring sets. I have just started to teach myself using this book. You can order it on Amazon dot com.
Im sure everyone noticed the generous video page that Sigung has released on his website "Solo Practice and Combat Application of the Four Gates - Old Videos" http://www.shaolin.org/video-clips-4...gates-old.html
What a new years gift. Historically showing the training in Shaolin Wahnam 20 years ago and confirming the standard version for these sequences, I would like to say a huge thank you for Sigung putting these videos up.
What a great "coincidence": I've just started training these sequences this week! I hadn't realized those videos were only recently posted. Thanks for pointing that out Jonny.
I have also begun learning the Four Gates set from the Summer Camp DVD. For those who do not have it, Sifu has kindly uploaded the material here.
I am still learning the basic set, and even that is mind-blowing. While the techniques look simple, there is certainly much more than meets the eye (cue: theme song from the cartoon series). Surprisingly (or maybe not surprising at all), the most immediate effect of practising the set was the noticeable energy flow I felt. I wonder if this is the reason why this was the fundamental set taught to Shaolin monks - the qi flow it engenders is quite unmistakable, and would let the monks experience internal force in a tangible way.
I have lots of things to practice, but for sure, I have to add Four Gates to my sessions now
