Discussion on Shaolin Wahnam Courses in Sabah , June 2008.
Yes it was an amazing couple of weeks, thank you for your kind words and sentiments and I know that Chi Kung will help us to continually grow together.
Kind Regards,
Parveen
“So I say to you –
This is how to contemplate our conditioned existence in this fleeting world:” “Like a tiny drop of dew, or a bubble floating in a stream;
Like a flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
Or a flickering lamp, an illusion, a phantom, or a dream.” “So is all conditioned existence to be seen.”
Hi Parveen and Joel!
Wow, you know what? You are not only a talented artist, but also a writer! What a wonderful story and wonderful metaphor for life. I am happy to know you two, and hope we meet again sometime (SOON!) Be well.
Barbara from Shaolin Wahnam USA Florida
I could not lie anymore so I started to call my dog "God". First he looked confused, then he started smiling, then HE EVEN DANCED! I kept at it; now he doesn't even bite. I am wondering if this might work on people?Tukaram
Thank you Jeffrey. I'm really happy for you and Laura too and proud to be another Shaolin Wahnam couple .
Thank you Barbara, it was lovely to have met you and no doubt we will meet again. Your words are too kind and to tell you the truth writing was one of my weak areas but after the Chi Kung course I feel that my mind is clearer, so I'm glad that you enjoyed the story and hope there are more to share.

Sean, at last we hear from you! I have not been divorced either and my husband, yesterday, said he knows I will be going back to Malyasia- hopefully with me! I continue 2x/day practice and I am so happy with it.
Like Michael told us about his last qigong training, I am a nicer person. How could anyone be upset with me (us!).
I am hoping your back is hugely improved.

Hello and thank you to Sifu and everyone on our June 3-7 course from Paul Cummins.
My apologies for the delay as I have never actually used a forum before (can you believe it! and I even own an internet company!) and I couldnt find my way to this string.
I experienced everything I had hoped for in the course. I have only been practising once daily, but am certainly progressing and learning more about chi flow. I must recommend to you all Sifu Wong's Complete Book of Zen, especially if the philosophical underpinnings are of interest to you - and if the ultimate end point of enlightenment has ever interested or intrigued you.
Thanks Barb for your photos - I dont have a camera so they are great for me to show my friends and family.
Good luck to everyone in your practice, and hope to catch up at a course somewhere, somewhen...
Paul Cummins
Hi Paul and welcom to the forum. Congratulations on your course with Sigung (Grandmaster Wong). I hope your practice continues to bring you much joy and happiness.
It is so nice to hear from everyone and thank you to all for your messages of congratulations regarding my engagement to Parveen.
It has a been a few weeks since the Intensive Course and yet still I feel a little overwhelmed by my experiences. If I can take a lead from Sifu and describe this journey in 3 words it would be:
magical, magical, magical
Here is a poem I wrote, dedicated to you all for making this such an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Arriving as many from lands spread afar
Individual journeys begin, excitement in Sabah.
Smiling faces greet us and welcome us in,
A new found land, a paradise within.
Landscape spreads and hills form again,
Our sanctury revealed, a haven of zen.
Up high on sacred Kinabalu,
Clouds form and swell.
Enchanted woods below,
And forest spirits dwell.
Evening echoes, insects shrill whistle
Darkness falls amid lightening illuminated rainfall
Arrive morning mist, emanating sunrise.
Did you hear the cockerel's crows?
A rush to shower quickly,
Fast, before the water goes!
Strange faces greet,
Aboard a transport vessel.
To congregate and meet,
Amidst a huge hall.
United by purpose,
To learn from our guide,
Blessed by good karma, Absorbing it all
Humble heads hamper heeding every word,
But teacher gives instruction and we follow his accord,
Richly learning lessons no riches can afford.
Smiling from the heart our spirits we expand,
With patterns learned from Lohan.
A Gentle breeze sways willows,
And vital energy flows.
Echo gentle soul reveal your inner face,
Merging with the cosmos,
Etheral light in space.
Taken in like kin, from aeons long departed,
Caring friendly family, arms open hearted.
Kind companions with hearts open wide,
Fears are confronted and worries thrown aside.
Sacred warming heat nourishing inside,
Then gentle stillness abides.
A cool calm placates, my mind left aside
Final day and words cannot express,
The feelings and emotions as sifu continues to bless,
Us With his energy and mind as we witness,
Incredible experiences so inexplicable,
They take courage to confess.
With a smile in our hearts and a tear in our eye,
The setting sun signals its time to say goodbye.
A family, Once separated, but then again united,
Apart again now, but eternally bonded.
Thank you Sifu
Thank you Wahnam family
Thank you friends
Thank you Joel for the beautiful poem which evokes the multifacetted magic experienced by different students from all over the world during the recent intensive chi kung course in Borneo.
And congratulations to you couple , Veenie and Joel .
Thank you to all who shared their inspiring experiences and hope to see you again somewhere in the Wahnam world .
For the uninitiated , chi kung is not only artistic to watch but scientific in approach : practise correctly consistently and the wholistic health effects appear as matter of course
Hello! I wanted to post this before but it took me longer than expected. Anyway, it's good to know that the course was so memorable that after four weeks we're still talking about it.
Greetings Damian! Thank you and your respectable family for organizing the course.
Hello Joel! Hello Parveen! You're a great inspiring couple.
Hello Paul!
Hello Barbara!
Hello Sean!
Hello Bernie, my namemate!
Hello Lara, my course-attendance twin!
Hello Carlo!
Hello Effie!
Hello Jan!
Hello Michael! (I know you're out there.)
It was great meeting everyone (though I didn't get the chance to really "meet" and chat with all of the 30 participants) -- great enjoying the staying in Sabah, enjoying the course, the presence of Sifu and the teaching of Sifu.
During the course days, I was sleeping very little (going to bed at midnight and waking up as early as at 4 am) but still had much energy. My long flight itinerary back home (with the fortunate company of Dra. Barbara throughout the Pacific ) was smooth and easy, and I was not tired at all (yet, during my first days here at home I was tired and kept falling asleep and sleeping a lot... Now I'm sleeping the usual ).
Actually, all my flights and layovers were very smooth, with no difficulties whatsoever. This is in spite of having done 11 takeoffs and 11 landings in total, round-trip! I can only thank the great and compassionate Guan Yin for that (I prayed for a secure trip so that my mother doesn't have any event to worry about).
During the course itself, Sifu helped me breaking one mental blockage I had, which consisted of [believing in] not being able to clear away bad thoughts. I was having tons of bad thoughts, a rain of them, and I couldn't stop them, but the paradox was that I didn't mean them at all! I consulted Sifu about this and he said "Just clear away the thoughts" and I replied (frustrated and a bit disrespectful) "But I can't!". Sifu then said very firmly: "You can, yes you can". At the end, he added: "And don't worry". Afterwards, with a lighter heart and worry-free, after some healthy crying (if somebody saw my red eyes later on that day --the first one of the course-- now you know why), I was able to terminate and clear away those thoughts... an ability I carried home with me .
Another experience: during Golden Shower, Sifu was saying: "Open up to the blessing of God. The blessing of God is everywhere". I was smiling and smiling from the heart, the golden energy was perceivable... and 'it' touched my heart. I felt very moved. Later, Sifu said in reply to one comment of mine: "It doesn't matter if you didn't feel the shower, it is better if it has touched your heart [...] Why didn't they write down the teaching of the Buddha at first? Because, it was a tradition: the highest teaching had to be given from heart to heart -- not just read".
More uplifting quotes for people like me: "Don't worry if you do not experience a satori. To feel free and happy is a tremendous achievement. God is very patient and is always there."... Sifu built up our confidence .
There were so many fundamental spiritual teachings during the course. It was all invaluable material.
At the graduation dinner I wasn't much eloquent and didn't say all that I would have wished to say (which could be summarized as, Thank you for transmitting the skill of smiling from the heart). I would like to add to that: A few years ago I encountered the question of "What is the common theme behind your best ever experiences in life?". My answer was: magic enjoyment. Now, to me, smiling from the heart could be described (partially) as "magic enjoyment". So, now I enjoy every day as in my previously best experiences in life -- with the peak feeling during my Chi Kung practice! Thank you, Sifu, for transmitting openly the skill of smiling from the heart!
KK was beautiful. Malaysians are nice. Muslims are very nice. I went to the State Mosque, the Puh Toh Tze Temple, the Signal Hill observatory, the waterfront esplanade and the Gaya Street Fair -- all worth it. The person in charge of the Sabah State Mosque showed me how to bow and the benefits of the bowing position, and explained me some things about Islam. The Buddhist taxi driver voluntarily acted as my tourist guide and gave me a discount on his own initiative. The pious shop employee at the Buddhist temple gave me one free mala (actually a bracelet) and took the time to search in the temple's library for books in English to give me (I got six free books).
I don't know if because of this sightseeing in pleasant Kota Kinabalu, or because of the high-level happy transmission of the course, my "Post-Sifu Blues" lasted for less than one day (compare this with my first course, in Costa Rica, when my PSB lasted for about two weeks!).
My practice is now more 'precise': before, I could do many different exercises, but my only result was generating an energy flow; now I'm focusing on developing skills. I'm having more frequent good sessions too, and spontaneous bodhicitta-filled thoughts after the really really good ones.
To end this post, remember that I told some of you that I was going to fail three subjects at my university because of attending the intensive course? Well, it turns out that I will get the average grade of my first two periods instead; that is: 95, 93 & 90 instead of 0, 0 & 15 -- Good flow of qi.
I encourage all who have not taken a course with Sifu, to do it before he retires. Your life will improve... by opening the heart. ["Sacred Heart of Jesus" icon here]
Thank you Sifu and all past masters,
Bernardo.
P.S. Thanks everyone for wishing me a happy birthday in Sabah!!!
