  • Scholar Project - On Becoming Scholar-Warriors

Scholar Project - "Living Shaolin Today!"

Come and join our very first Scholar Workshop world-wide!

    Dear Shaolin Family,

The Scholar Committee is pleased to announce the first implementation of the Scholar Project.

Overall Aim of the Scholar Project:

To become Scholar-Warriors just as our own Sifu/Sigung is (and one of our forefathers Ven. Jiang Nan was).

A Scholar Warrior is vibrantly alive, knowing how to enjoy life to its fullest.

He/she is able to use his/her Shaolin skills in a variety of ways:

    i) as self-defense,
ii) for healing (of oneself and others),
iii) to enjoy a life of quality and fulfillment.

    Objectives of the Scholar Project:

To enable individuals to learn various life skills such as:

    a) how to use the computer effectively for one's own business
    b) how to eat and enjoy food not just because it fills our stomach, but because we can appreciate its fine flavours
    c) how to read a book/magazine etc and not only extract information from it, but also enjoy it
    d) how to negotiate in such a way that one can always close with a "win-win" deal - and enjoy the whole process!

    First Scholar Weekend Workshop

Please find below the details of our first Scholar Weekend. A "creative-business" model is being used to present our first two "Scholar" topics.

    Course Name:

Scholar Weekend - "Speak & Write your Way to Success"
    Creative Topic One: Creative Writing
    Business Topic Two: Public Speaking

    Is this Course for You?

If you have ever wished that you could better present your ideas to your students, or if you have wondered how you could write an irresistible press release for your courses, then this is the perfect course for you.

This comprehensive workshop is designed specifically for anyone who would like to become able to do one or more of the following:

    a) earn income where good writing and speaking skills are involved
    b) overcome "nerves" when speaking in public, and be able to flow effortlessly through that chi kung, wedding or company speech
    c) become published in the near future
    d) uncover or strengthen your connection to your unique, authentic "voice"
    e) use words in a "simple, direct, effective" way to raise the readers'/audiences' awareness of various issues
    f) explore one's imaginative, intuitive side without the critical, editing mind taking over

    Aims:
    1. To contact one's authentic writing & speaking voice, be able to implement it, and enjoy both the process and its product
    2. To become able to go into the chi kung state of mind and effortlessly "deliver" a written piece/a public speech.

    Objectives:
    a) be able to know the difference between planned and spontaneous writing/speaking
    b) be able to utilise both methods of writing/speaking
    c) be able to know the difference between explanatory and revelatory writing/speaking
    d) be initiated into using both
    e) to successfully write a short story, a press release and deliver a public speech
    h) to publish the short story in a Shaolin Wahnam "Scholar" website
    i) to deliver the speech via video and have it uploaded to the "Scholar" website

                  Dear Shaolin family and friends,

Here is just a small taste of what you can expect from this workshop with Negotiations maestro, Sifu Piti Parra Duque:

"...People who incorporate the energy and mind aspects into their negotiation skills will be in great advantage even against a skillful “technical” or “form” negotiator. But someone who understands the principles of Jing, Chi and Shen through direct experience and disciplined practice will be able to combine this knowledge and skills with those of the classical negotiations and be the most powerful yet gentle negotiator, because his interactions will be “imbued with internal force and consciousness”. The poetry of energy and mind will be easily transferable to any of his/her daily actions. That is the essence of the art of negotiating – consciously generating meaningful interactions of energy to create maximum results for the maximum parts involved..."

In a few moments, I will be leaving for the airport to pick up Sifu Piti. We'll take him for some good food in Toronto, and tomorrow we'll enjoy a day of relaxation, then on Saturday the weekend Scholar Workshop on the "Art of Negotiation" will begin.

It is still not too late to register.

What a schedule! Now ... how can I get to Costa Rica and then Japan twice? Believe me, if I could, I'd be at all three of these courses. Maybe I know a bit more about what is being planned than others .... but I know each and every one of these projects is nothing less than a gem.
