  • March 2004 intensive course report

    I promised Mike I would write something about the course, and as this forum has been very helpful in helping me decide to go there, I thought it would be good if I report back from the front.

    What can I say, it has been an amazing week, have met some great people, and had the nicest time.

    We were 8 people, plus a self-invited course junky :

    - Don, from England - who is currently still training his Kung Fu with Jeffrey and Roland (Luo Lang on the forum);
    - Karim, from Switzerland, whose working habits involve standing still all day long, covered in white powder, in various touristic spots around the world;
    - Jonathan, from England, our team leader;
    - Yixin and his wife, from Texas;
    - Christine, from Germany (student of Kai);
    - Jeffrey and Lauren, whom Vegemite addiction I won't mention;
    - And yours truly.

    Everyone was lovely, and we ended up with a solid group. (Hopefully we'll keep in touch!).

    The location (Cinta Sayang resort) is wonderful as well. It was quite a difference to train with Sifu facing a magnificent sunset, in the warm Malaysian weather, when compared to my back garden in the UK
    The staff at the resort are all the nicest people, very helpful and always smiling. I can't really comment on food, because I'm not really fussy, and like everything. But based on other people's judgement, it was all great. Jeffrey made sure that we tried the satay outside of the resort, which was delightful. (I'm running out of adjectives now...)

    Some great memories:
    - The 2 dinners with Sifu and his lovely family
    - The evenings downtown Sungai Petani, in various restaurants
    - The transformation of most people throughout the course (some Qigong success stories there...)
    - Ending up fixing Chun Nga's laptop at 2 in the morning, for about 2 hours
    - Jacob, the tour guide, a laid-back and quite funny chap (full of anecdotes which I will not reproduce here )

    The course itself:
    As you would expect, I recommend everyone to attend such a course. I found it the perfect complement to the regional course. I don't mean that it is merely a nice addition, but - in my case - it consolidates and considerably expands the skills acquired during a regional course.
    Quite noticeably, it answered all the questions I was asking myself (and asked on this forum) about my practice (Chi flow without form, directing Chi in the body - consciously or not, ...) I now feel much more confident about what I'm doing, although obviously I'm still an early-stage beginner!

    So there you go, all of you who haven't yet considered it, just go and book your tickets

    I will put some photos online sometime this week.

    Bravo Hubert

    Greetings from the Cameron Highlands!

    I wonder who Hubert is talking about when he says "self invited course junkie"

      Hubert - thanks for this - hopefully its not just I who benefit from hearing about it

      I liked the colour you provided (even in terms of running out of superlatives!).

      However you did end up with a tease as per the above.... so what are the answers you got to those!

      at least spring is springing in London today...

        Hubert & everyone else,

        Congratulations on your experiences, your answers, your flows, your wonders and your Satay experience!

        Now you get the fun part of attempting to explain what you have experienced/realised/glimpsed/felt and then have people cross examine you .

          Well, it's not really litteral answers. Let's say that the skills we learnt enabled me to answer those questions by experience.

          Ok, it might not be extremely clear.

          Let's find an analogy...

          ...

          Can't find any.

          Right, I would say that the main difference between the regional and intensive course is that in the regional course we learn more techniques, whereas in the intensive one we learn more skills. Those skills notably include focusing more on the mind aspect (rather than energy or form). That is what particularly helped me to answer those questions.

          Now, get back to me in a few years, and I will probably have a more coherent reply

            Oh no you have been zen-ised... in a few more years you will be a koan

            You rather remind me of Daniel in Stargate after he went over to the other side... "I can't actually explain where I am but I am... here..." type thing

            Anyway on the tv front as I recall rain was always a good way to see the invisible man so I just need to hang round hyde park on a rainy weeknight

            Shine on.

              That's the thing. Lots of people have told me I look very zen, whereas all I am is just very confused...
