Dear Paul!
Juan Parra opened an inspiring thread in the Spanish section of the forum, called "I once heard Sifu say...". Your comment and his thread reminded me of something I heard Sifu say several times - " Our intention directs our energy".
Vague intention disperses our energy uselessly. Clear, focused intention generates good results. A balanced combination of intention and discipline generates maximum results. Congratulations Paul!

Thanks everyone, it feels great to be part of the Wahnam family with all the positivity and support!
I want to make a couple of further points.
1. As well as the aims and objectives, I must add that training with Sifu and his instructors has helped me in many other ways in pursuit of my aim - for example I was able to each day do my usual programme of kung fu training, and do my job at work, yet still have the energy to use my lunchbreak to study for my new job / interview, and to carry on the studying each night, usually till 2am.
It helped me control the rage I felt against my old bosses who made fortunes of cash by taking credit for my hard work, whilst I got no recognition.
It also helped me stay calm before and during what was a tough series of interviews.
2. I didn't make this point first time because I felt it would sound like I was boasting, but having discussed it with trusted senior friends I will make the point as it may be useful (though still a bit boastful). Please note I am not trying to make out I'm rich now or something, but the fact is that I am moving from a poorly paid job to a fairly paid job, and without taking the UK Summer Camp Taijiquan Course with Sifu I don't believe I would have got this job - certainly not at this stage. Anyway, the point is:
If I can hold down the new job for one year, the extra money I will earn in that year compared to my old job, will be enough to pay for every course I have ever taken with Sifu, and the future one I intend to take in Malaysia.
I always saw the 'costs' of Sifu's courses as an investment rather than a cost. I thought of them as an investment in myself and my health. But now I am thinking they could be considered as a financial investment too!
What can I say, but thanks again Sifu!

Hi guys,
This thread has been inspirational, and I was especially happy to read Paul's story as we work in the same industry and have had some good email conversations about it.
Well, count me as another success story. I have just officially accepted what appears to be a dream job. Some of my new co-workers are rightfully recognized as being some of the best software developers in the world. Plus, I will have significantly better benefits and a 35% raise! And the timing is such that I am able to spend a few days visiting my family halfway across the country *and* go to Malaysia for my first intensive kung fu course! I'm speechless at how well everything is working out. Frankly, and I say this as someone with a lot of self-confidence, there is no way that I am skillful enough yet to achieve such a result on my own. Sigung wrote recently that the Cosmos helps those who help themselves. Well I helped myself and the Cosmos certainly helped me, for which I am deeply grateful.
Similar to Paul, I was initially not qualified for this job and had to be smart in using my free time to gain the required skills quickly.
Looking back, I can clearly see how I applied some principles that have been used in this thread but not explicitly talked about -the 4 preparations and 3 arrivals. I have to confess that I didn't always make a conscious effort to apply them as such. I didn't sit down and write a list of each preparation and arrival and figure out how to apply them in turn to the specific situation. I have enough skill with them that I am sometimes able to use them naturally. But when I encounter a difficult problem, I step back and apply them explicitly.
If anyone is interested, I would be happy to write about some of the ways I applied the 4 preparations and 3 arrivals to this process. I'm sure that many of you are more skillful with them than I am and discussing them could draw out some fascinating insight.
Best,
ChrisChris Didyk

Thank You.

Dear Chris,
I'd be more than glad to hear of the way you applied the 4 modes of preparation and 3 arrivals to your situation, both implicitly and explicitly.
Please, share with us your insight.

Chris - CONGRATULATIONS!
High time we had another email conversation then eh! Keep an eye on your inbox...
35% raise is tremendous, a very nice jump indeed! I am of course not surprised - I know how clued-up and dedicated to IT you are. I can also imagine how the Shaolin training and strategies would give you an edge, but would really like to hear all about it!
well done bro,
Paul

Dear brothers and sisters,
First and foremost, a congratulations to Chris ^^. Well done.
Also I was hoping some advice on negotiating a contract of sorts I plan to use the three arrivals and the four preparations accordingly. I've also started a thread asking for help here:
Since I've never done this before I'm hoping for some guidance. My main goal is simply to be able to have enough money to stay in Irvine and save up to meet my objective of attending Sifu's Intensive courses next June.
Best,
