  • Need help figuring out 18 step (stances)

Hello everyone, this is my first post to the forum. I am researching how the Chinese martial arts influenced the Korean martial arts via the ancient Korean text the Moo Yei Do Bo TOng Ji which drew from Qi Ji Kwangs 32 postures and Mao's Bubishi to name a few famous Chinese texts.

In the text it mentions the 35 hand techniques and the 18 steps. I thought I'd start with the 18 steps. My understanding of Chinese is very limited. Although I translated the characters many of the actual techniques escape me. So I hope some of you here would share your expertise.

    Thanks

    Dan

    Wow Dan,
Great resource, thank you so much for sharing. I'll see if I can help with the characters you don't know but I would recommend asking Sifu about the actual techniques.

      18 stances

Thanks Ray, the characters I can figure out its the actual steps/stances I can connect. I am a Korean martial artist (30 years) and have studied Yang Style Tai Chi. I have been researching the Chinese-Korean connection for some time now.

I don't have access to a sifu that is knowledgeable in Chinese language so I had hoped by joining this board I might further my research and share what I know as well.

If you can pass it on to someone that would recognize the stances I would greatly appreciate it.

      Thanks

      Dan

        Dear Dan,

I would suggest that you email your question to our teacher, Sifu Wong. This seems like something he might tackle in his monthly Q&A. It may take him some time to respond, but you can reach him at:
