This technique is in Shaolin Five Animals form, from Master Wong Kiew Kit's book. He did gave info on how to perform the technique but I could not figure out how to do it.
So any member of Shaolin Wahnam Institute could help me out, and please give me more details on how to perform it.
The pattern "Swimming Dragon Plays with Water" is a difficult one to understand from a book or through words, but I will try.
In some ways, the movement is similar to the pattern "Cloud Hands" in taijiquan. From a side horse stance, you swerve your body away from the target in a fluid, Dragon-like movement, making circular movements with your hands. This movement continues in a circle as you swerve back towards the target with the front hand making a movement as if pulling a needle and thread.
This is an amazingly versatile pattern that can be used against many kicks, but also against many hand strikes. For example, it can be used as a counter to any of the attacks in our basic Kungfu set, Lohan Asks the Way (called the Shaolin Hand Attack set in the book).
I could describe this pattern all day, but it probably won't help. The good news is that there should be a video of me performing the Five Animal set available on Sifu Wong's site very soon. So keep an eye out for it. Then you can see the pattern in action, instead of just in words.
Hello Antonius,
Thank you for replying my post and show me ho to to the technique correctly.
Do you know when you will post the videos of five animals forms ? because I can't wait to see it!!!
Good to see more people practicing the Five Animals set. Antonious, I look forward to training it with you and comparing notes.
Comparing the 'swimming dragon plays with water' pattern to 'cloud hands' is a good comparison. These similar techniques develop (skills) fluid movements that don't match an opponents strength head on, but skilfully allow the defendant to swerve around the threat, and create an opportunity for attack.
It is possible I expect that after effectively threading an attacking kick for example, there might not even be a need to follow up with a strike. The skill in the threading can be profound enough to put the opponent off balance resulting in him falling to the ground. Another example of the similar skills of dragon techniques is explained in this interesting thread by Antonious :
That is the first time I have seen the Five Animals Form outside of " The Art of Shaolin Kung Fu " . It is wonderful to see the still pictures come to life before my eyes .
Will the version Sifu uploads onto the site be the full version of the video ?
OFF TOPIC: Doesnt george's avatar look like the evil emperor guy from star wars? its uncanny lol
\begin{Offtopic} I'd do an evil laugh, but these days I don't feel very evil any more. The photo was a compromise between me wanting to put my photo up and my paranoia of putting my photo on the net. Although, it is probably not good to mention the "S" and "W" words together on a forum read by (soon to be) Sifu Darryl and some of his students - definitely not a good way to keep the thread on topic! \end{Offtopic}

No, the video that Sifu will be uploading will be identical. What wrong? Isn't that full enough for you? Should we give away all our secrets?
<looking hopeful>... yes? But seriously, it's ok, I can wait - I will learn and master them eventually. It is the least I can do to repay Sigung's generosity.
