Larisa Blazic is one of my chi kung students in London. She’s kindly given permission for me to report her case here.
A month ago, Lara was knocked off her bike. She suffered a ‘depression fracture’ of the cheekbone/eyesocket, and was unconscious/semi-conscious for a few hours. She also sustained considerable bruising to her neck, ribs and torso.
Lara was kept in hospital for a few days; during this time she had surgery to reset the bones, done by cutting through her upper jaw and inserting some titanium 'scaffolding’. The surgeons did a very good job, however predicted recovery time was 3 months, with initial improvement in 6-8 weeks.
I saw Lara for a healing session two weeks later. There was obviously some facial swelling, but overall I was surprised at how well she looked, considering the trauma she’d experienced. Although she hadn’t felt up to practicing chi kung since the accident, she had ‘money in the bank’ in this respect, due to her diligent practice in the months beforehand.
I was really impressed by Lara’s positive attitude - she was very grateful for the care she'd received from the doctors and her friends, and also felt lucky and blessed that the accident hadn’t been worse, and that her Mum (visiting from Serbia) was able to extend her stay to look after her. I'm sure this outlook aided her recovery.
Lara’s aims for the session were to speed up the healing process following her surgery, to reduce the disorientating effects of the concussion, (she hadn’t left her house since returning from hospital) and pain relief - the injury to her ribs meant that every breath caused a sharp pain in the centre of her chest, sleep was interrupted and her range of movement limited.
Her facial swelling lessened noticeably during the session itself, she felt stronger and clearer, her eyes were brighter and more ‘alive’, and she achieved more freedom of movement right away. Within 2 days, the pain disappeared.
Starting the day after the session, she resumed her chi kung practice and went out for a short while every day, gradually building her strength and confidence. She still has some tenderness around the site of the incision in her jaw, but otherwise feels pretty much back to normal.
I was very happy to see Lara back in class last Thursday, 2 weeks after the healing session and 4 weeks after her accident.
I'm very proud of her, and and so grateful to Sifu for transmitting these marvellous arts. I'm also really delighted Lara will benefit from Sifu's amazing healing energy at the Cosmic Shower course tomorrow.
With love and respect to all,
Fleur
Apologies for the low resolution of the second photo below, taken on Omar's iphone at class.
Pic A, understandably not too happy; post-op bruising and swelling setting in.
Pic B, smiling again!
