Has anybody heard of a the 'golden bell' form/style?
April 2001 (part 3)
'"Lifting Water" is also found in Shaolin Kungfu, as in the art of Golden Bell. If you train "Lifting Water" every day for many years, you can develop such tremendous internal force that you can send an opponent flying back over twenty feet by a seemingly gentle push.'
August 1998 (part 1)
'it is a fallacy to think that in a situation you described, a person would not be hurt if he has Golden Bell. A master with internal force, such as Cosmos Palm, may penetrate the Golden Bell...This of course does not mean Golden Bell is useless. Personally speaking, I like Golden Bell; it is far more artistic and sophisticated than Iron Shirt.'
you can find other references that Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit has said if you go to Google and type: golden bell site:wahnam.com

"The holistic training of Shaolin Kungfu with Chi Kung makes one physically fit, emotionally stable and mentally fresh: if one is not physically fit, one can hardly fight; if one is not emotionally stable, one cannot apply one's combat skills; if one is not mentally fresh, one cannot make split-second decisions."

The Art of Golden Bell (Jin Zhong Zhao) is an advanced form of martial qigong whereby the practitioner develops the ability to take certain punches, kicks, and even weapon attacks without sustaining any injury.
In some ways, it is similar to arts like Iron Shirt. However, the methods for training Golden Bell are mainly internal, whereas the methods for Iron Shirt are a mix of internal and external.
Although Golden Bell is an advanced art, it is still alive and well. Those of you who practice Golden Bridge will be happy to hear that your practice can later lead to Golden Bell (with the guidance of a master).

thankyou for you knowledge
The golden bell basically describes it self then - a sheild of chi protecting the body from attacks. I suppose its like being covered by a 'invisble bell' using internal chi to ward off external gong. You have mentioned Sifu wongs answer that cosmos palm could penertrate the the golden bell - is this due to two internal techniques counteracting each other?. If that was the case then which master would defeat each others technique? Is it down to who ever has trained the most ? Not having seen such techniques
its would be wrong for me to guess but the only way i can picture is that cosmos palm must direct all the chi ,shen, jing together through the palm almost like a bullet cracking the 'golden bell'.
In the golden bell technique does the internal force protect the body all over or is the energy moved to certain areas as strikes are hit.I have seen this mentioned is various films that masters can move there energy around the body during certain parts of the day so infact moving there 'weak spot'.Usely the film ends with the hero's defeating the so called 'bad master' by finding his weak spot and killing him with a deadly blow!!! Is there any truth in this and if so is this how golden bell is executed.
cheers

well here's the full question:
Question 4
You have mentioned that Wahnam Shaolin does not emphasise Golden Bell techniques. If an attacker gets pass all your hand and leg defences, and strikes your body, how would you respond?
Answer 4
I would do any one of the following:
move back a step to avoid the strike
rotate my waist to deflect the attack
curve in the body to "swallow" the attack
move my body forward to press against his striking hand, thereby preventing the implementing of the strike and simultaneously strike him with my head
lean back sideway and strike him with a side kick -- the leaning back enables me to avoid his attack
pull back one elbow to deflect the strike and simultaneously strike him from a side or from behind with my forearm or hand
jump up and strike him with my knee -- the jumping itself enables me to avoid his strike
move aside and strike his ribs with my shin
lean back frontally as if being hit (but not actually) and tap his groin with the insep of my foot, using a pattern called "Lie on Sea and Observe the Sky"
Turn around, lean forward and tap his groin with the sole of my foot, using a pattern called "Dragonfly Dots Water".
Please note that some of the responses can be implemented even if I were pressed against a wall.
It is a fallacy to think that in a situation you described, a person would not be hurt if he has Golden Bell. A master with internal force, such as Cosmos Palm, may penetrate the Golden Bell. Even if the opponent has no internal force or the internal force is not powerful enough to break the Bell, he still can hurt the Golden Bell exponent by driving a leopard-punch into his throat, thrusting two fingers into his eyes, or smashing a knee onto his groin. Someone skillful enough to get past your hands and legs, is likely to know such Bell-breaking techniques.
Your chances of escaping unhurt from such a situation are more if you are well versed in some of the techniques I have described above. The time to master these techniques as well the relevant skills is probably less than the time to master Golden Bell.
This of course does not mean Golden Bell is useless. Personally speaking, I like Golden Bell; it is far more artistic and sophisticated than Iron Shirt.Rory

Well the theory on the cosmos palm on breaking through the Golden Bell is simple. It comes down to whose technique is better. I'm including the development of personal energy in this. People with massive amounts of energy trained into Golden bell will be able to 'shrug off' most normal strikes (But as listed above there are normal strikes that can puncture it.) While conversely a person with an amazingly impressive amount trained into their cosmos palm will break many a golden bell, and a non-golden bell trained person.
So it pretty much comes down to a 'my fu is better than your fu' competition (although between people of that level, rarely are they actually speaking like that.)
