  • "The Taoist Experience"

    Hello everyone ,

I wanted to recomend a book I had found at the beginning of this summer. I found a pretty good book imo that has some gems of translated Taoist scriptures, "The Taoist Experience" edited by Livia Kohn.
"The nine energies are necessary for immortality, but they are not something for any person to be allowed to come in contact with or hear about. The populus common, in their unending worry, their concern is only with riches and honors. They may well be called walking corpses." - Ge Hong

      The Taoist Experience

Good Day Aaron Gretings like always he he

well I have read all this book yesterday(in one night only )

Is a good book but not my favorite, even when I read so much history of the immortals(something that you know I waned before)

I found only one book that touch my heart in this book and that is in page 87 Chongyang lijiao shiwu lun by Wang Chongyang(1113-1170)

I respect this forum law: You will not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by the Shaolin Wahnam Institute. So I only going to write some similar words from the book! I belive in this way I don't go against this forum rule!?

what about that on page 7 you read something like the Dragon gate school and the Celestial masters schools are the 2 surviving forms of Daoism today?

what can you said about this page 153:

Celestial Immortals have been attacked for their allegedly orgiastic practice! I don't really understand!(like many things in this book)

on page 81 you read about the Heavenly seclusion master, who is him ? do you know?

      Thanks

      Hugo

Yeah, for the most part I believe this to be true. But the author is only talking about formal organizations of organized religion forms of Taoism that survive to today. Scholars and authorities certainly can't include all the surviving forms of taoism in their census'. For example, in addition to the kind of Taoism my teacher's lineage comes from, Great Clarity, I'm sure there are private surviving groups of the Great Peace (Taiping) school.

This is true although I should note here the author was refering to the Celestial Master school and not immortals, although it would not surprise me to learn immortals have sex and do such things as well. There aren't many people today imo that understand how and why priests and followers of such schools in the past did such forms of qigong in their religious services.

He is written about in some other taoist scriptures. He is a friend of Primal Lord (Lao Tzu's teacher). I believe the master who wrote this scripture in the book learned these teachings from him and then put the instruction in his own words.
