  • PLEASE! Can you help me to choose the best books?

    Good Day! Everybody!

PLEASE! Can you help me to choose the best books?

I’m interesting in read the history and skill of Martial Arts and easily about words from the teacher of the style and easily from the classic books!

I’m not interesting about their techniques and how to use their forms! Can you please help me which book would be the best for each style?

Or if you have any comments they are welcome!

    by Xie Peiqi

(Mr.Xie Peiqi said: We should not talk about branches in Baguazhang, there is only one style and the variations we know come from a different level of attainment of its practitioners. Yin Fu spent more than twenty years with Dong Haichuan and learnt his complete system) Xie has also already completed books on Herbal Prescriptions, Bagua basic concepts, Bagua Classic texts, and I think also on the Lion System. These are awaiting translation, as is Men Baozhen's own book. Yin Fu was Dong's best disciple - his skill was best among all Dong's students.

PLEASE! Can you help me to choose the best books?

Good Day! Tou Dai: Adam! Thanks for your answer!

I'm not practicing and want not practice any of those styles!

I'm practicing from Sifu Wong Kiew Kit books, and want to train only his Martial Art style!

I'm just love to read about others styles, and I believe thats good! Isn't that so?

But I was hoping that some one have read all these books and could tell me which would be the best so I don't buy them all! But well maybe I should buy them all little by little in the future! And then choose the best, but of course this thread going to be still open, who knows maybe some one knows and reply!

I'm interesting in old classics of each style or new books that show special the History of the style, and how they use Chi in their style ( and it would be better I believe if there is a Master of the style that write the book)

Well I'm going any way still researching and refining my search- Thanks! Hugo !

        Hi Hugo

        difficult question my friend!

Obviously, I strongly recommand you all the books by Sifu Wong

I have some of the other books you mentioned.

I would recommand you Dr Yang Jwing Ming's books (especially the essence of white crane and Shaolin long fist -they have a lot of interesting stories and historical background about Shaolin-).

If you show interest in Hung Gar, you won't find the book by Master Buck Sam Kong anymore (I have some of his videos and dvds, they give a beginner a strong envy to practice), there are others which I own also but they are technical. Try the book by master Wing Lam 'Southern Shaolin Kung Fu Ling Nam Hung Gar', it is a very good book (but quite difficult to find in Europe).

I cannot make further comments on all the books, because I have not read them all. So maybe there are some real gems hidden...

        Best,

        Maxime

PLEASE! Can you help me to choose the best books?

Good Day ~ My dear Friend and Tou Dai: Maxime

Thank you so much for your answer!

Any way I have been all the day researching and studying all these arts and I found that I love more to read in books only these arts below, because I find these arts more lovely for me than the others ones:

And I found these the best books for me:

Liuhebafa Five Character Secrets : Chinese Classics, Translations, Commentary (Paperback)
          by Paul Dillon

The Fundamentals of Pa Kua Chang: The Methods of Lu Shue-Tien As Taught by Park Bok Nam. (Fundamentals of Pa Kua Chan (Unique)) (Paperback)
by Bok Nam Park, Dan Miller

The Taijiquan Classics: An Annotated Translation (Paperback)
by Barbara Davis, Chen Weiming, Weiming Chen

Thanks for your time - my search is finally over!

            Hi Hugo,

I have the R. Smith/A. Pittman XingYi and PaKua books although it has been years since I read them.

For the criteria you mentioned, I don't think these are the ones you're looking for:

            1. I don't think there's that much on history/stories.
            2. I think the vast majority focuses on form(s), with little or no force, application or philosophy.

            Best,
            Nicky

              Tou Dai: Nicky! Good Day!

I'm not going to buy the The Taijiquan Classics! Because I'm going to go to the library right now and get The Complete Book of Tai Chi Quan by Sifu: Wong Kiew Kit, it have been like a year now since I read that book, but I belive there where many texts of the Tai Chi Classic in that book. My friend if I really speak more from the heart, the arts that I am more interesting in reading and that I love more for they philosofy etc ways of all the Martial Arts are Liuhebafa and Baguazhang and White Crane Kung fu, Shen Men Tao and Shaolin Kung Fu from Sifu Wong Kiew Kit!

Ps. I came back letter about the book of White Crane- Any way this one seems a good start: The Essence of Shaolin White Crane-Martial Power and Qigong by Jwing-Ming Yang

Thank you for your help Tou Dai: Nicky, Tou Dai: Maxime and Sifu Stier for your private message ~Hugo

I have decided to not buy any of those books after reading little inside them and about Tui Na and Dit Da in the Internet, I feel i don't need to buy them!

And there are many Kung Fu school that have their own formulas!

Here you can read little more: http://www.tombisio.com/

Now I have borrow a book from the library named: The Chinese Art of Healing by Stephan Palos and it seems more interesting!

I belive experience is more important!

PS. I read little too in Sifu: Wong Kiew Kit book The Complete Book of Chinese Medicine yesterday, and that give me more light and there Sifu: Wong Kiew Kit recommended in the last pages of the book, this book: The Chinese Art of Healing by Stephan Palos so now I am going to read it tonight!

                    Bye

                      Hugo,

Best to find a good teacher and practice!
Reading is nice and informative (as you know) but nothing bests practice.

Do you want to be a good reader or a good practitioner?
                      The only choice is yours.
