The Real Deal!
Hello Selva:
The Autobiography of a Yogi is the actual personal account of the training and experiences of one of the great yogis of the 20th Century. It is not a fictional work. As such, Yogananda's book sheds invaluable light on the Classical Hindu yogic methods of Self-Realization which have been taught in India traditionally for many milleniums to date. Yogananda's teaching in India and abroad was instrumental in popularizing his School of Yoga throughout the world. His own personal demonstration of the highest levels of achievement through lifelong devotion to Yoga teachings and practices were an indisputable validation of the multi-faceted benefits from Yoga Meditation and Exercises.
His yogic skills sustained his physical body without post-mortem corruption for many weeks following his death. Check out the very intriguing account of Dr. William Buckner, MD...who was in charge of the Los Angeles, California L.A. County Morgue where Yogananda's body was stored while awaiting transport to India...regarding his experience with Yogananda's 'dead' body. Enjoy the book! It's a Classic.
You may also enjoy reading The Gospel of Sri Ramakrisna translated into English by Swami Nikhilananda...which is similarly an account of a real Yoga Master, Sri Ramakrishna, who many tens of thousands in India considered a Divine Incarnation or Avatara during his lifetime. An amazing book about a truly incredible person!
Equally interesting and enjoyable is The Mysteries of Man, Mind and Mind-Functions by Swami Narayanananda...a lesser known Yoga Master of the highest achievement....who never sought the fame and fortune which many of the 20th Century Masters did, but chose to live the simple life of a yogi monk until his death. This is also an excellent read.
All of these books...and numerous others as well...provide interesting food for thought regarding the physical, mental, and Spiritual potential of genuine Internal Arts of all kinds which can be achieved by ordinary people everywhere!

Autobiography Of A Yogi is one of my favorite books."The nine energies are necessary for immortality, but they are not something for any person to be allowed to come in contact with or hear about. The populus common, in their unending worry, their concern is only with riches and honors. They may well be called walking corpses." - Ge Hong
