    Dear friends,
I was wondering if any of you could tell me more about the legendary 18 Lohans.

    Thank you,

      Jeffrey,
Thanks for the link, but I meant the 18 Lohans (or 18 Arahats) who were supposedly disciples of Sakyimuni Buddha and inherited his martial art secrets. I've seen statues of them in Shaolin kungfu poses such as Lifting the Sky and using Shaolin Eight Eye Exercises. ANY information on them would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks,

All Ive heard on this subject is that due to the Lord Buddha being formally a prince he would have been trained in the warrior arts and indian systems of martial arts, and so I would have thought it likely he had been trained in exercises like lifting the sky etc.

After renouncing his royal title I have never heard of him teaching martial arts, but this isn't to say it did not happen. As my knowledge of buddhism and its history is very very basic, someone else on the forum may give you a more detailed answer.

        Best wishes
