  • Wang Hongjun - Tales Of The Shaolin Monastery (1988)

    Hello everyone,
I've been after this book for ages and ages, even tried the British Library, their website said they had a copy, but when I tried to get it through my local library, they said they didn't. So has anyone got a copy of this book they wish to sell/lend, or know where I can turn up a copy (I've even tried ordering this from Australia (Chinabooks) and the USA Amazon site)? Or has anyone read this book and would care to give their opinion on it.
Finally, I prefer to practice my Shaolin Wahnam Cosmos Chi Kung. But I also like to fill my public transport time (to, from work) with Kung Fu literature in all it's manifestations, so, what is your favourite book on the martial arts? Recommendations gratefully accepted.
My recommendations are as follows for anyone interested:
    Anything by Sifu Wong
Lee's Modified Tai Chi Chuan for Health by Lee Ying-arng (some very interesting information on the Masters of various Tai Chi Chuan styles).
    The Way of a Warrior

Not sure what happened here, the above post is only half of what I submitted. And I havn't got the time left to re-write it. Enough to say I look forward to your recommendations and if you have any leads as to where I can get my hands on a copy of Tales of the Shaolin Monastery, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks for contributing.

      Greetings Marcus Santer,

My favorites are General Yue Fei and Three Kingdoms. They are listed in the "must read" category.

        Hey Marcus,

I have been after that book for over 4 years, but no one has one. Now and then i have been told that Wing Lam can get it www.wle.com but they never have it listed.

Kind Dragon can point you in the direction of the real Chinese classic's, which i hope to read when i finish with my current read - the Complete Book of Shaolin by Sifu. I am after the $60 General Yue Fei book on www.wle.com hope to order as soon as my VISA card turns up - i only have switch at the moment and i can only pay with mastercard or visa !

Besides that, Complete Book of Shaolin is one of Sifu's best books. He assured me i wold enjoy it and i sure do ! About two thirds of the way through.

Www.wle.com has loads of books, some might be worth a read, i want to also get 'skills of the vagabonds' looks good heard some good stuff about it.

What else.... Apart from the classics there is not much out there. I read a lot about the subject (Shaolin) over the last few years, but most just frustrates me a bit. Take ***** ***** *******, supposed to be fairly well respected 'internal' master, traveled widely and trained widely. His comment in his glossary of his book, err... can't remember the name something about guide to the internal arts, anyway, to describe Shaolin Kung Fu was along the lines ' a hard, external aggressive style with some internal aspects'.

These kind of comments make me glad Sifu writes his books !

Anyway, must go, many emails, the training, then bed.

Oh, if you are ever down this way let me know, we can get together and i can teach you some Kung Fu to work on if you want.

Thanks for the feedback Kind Dragon and Dan. Will check out the www.Wle site, sounds good. And Dan, If I can get down to your neck of the woods I'd love to learn some Kung Fu to work on, especially while I save up to go to Malaysia.
Okay, gotta go do some more nest building stuff.
