  • Nyepi - the day of silence

    --
Today, people in Bali, Indonesia, are celebrating "Nyepi", - the Great Day of Silence.

It is the first day of the new year for Balinese people.
Today is The New Year Saka 1933. It is an official holiday in Indonesia.

Normally, we celebrate New Year with parties, festivals, music, dances, etc.
    But, not so in Bali.
Balinese celebrate their New Year with silence.
For the whole day, everything is quiet in Bali.
People stay at home, with no TV, no computers, no gas, no electricity.
    They contemplate, and meditate.

What a unique way to celebrate and begin a new year!

        New Year Saka 1935

Another New Year for Balinese people today.
Now is the New Year Saka 1935.

It's celebrated in Bali in a unique way.
Most people stay at home, taking retreat, contemplating, meditating.
For 24 hours, no food, no drinks, no electricity, no phone, no internet, except in international hotels.

And it's national holiday in Indonesia.

          Happy New Year Joko Sifu

Bali is unique and so beautiful. :-) Lovely people, I have to say.

It is amazing to see that art is everywhere within the island. No matter where you look, people express themselves through beautiful art making.

One of my favorite places in earth and highly spiritual. A paradise in Earth.

          Shaolin Salute,

          Santiago
