No, genuine chi kung is not a waste of time, because I have experienced first hand the benefits that it is meant to give, like vitality, mental clarity, not being sick or suffering from illness (for many years now), great health, increased confidence, and spiritual joys, amongst many other benefits that are subtle and profound.
However, if chi kung is practised as mere physical exercise, then depending on one's aims and objectives it may or may not be a complete waste of time.
my experiance:
If you invest 2x10min into Qigong a day, its enough energy for the whole day and you can do everything better.
if you are sick qigong will help you get healthy faster.
I think the investment returns a million times
In my opinion, it depends on the outcome.
If you get good results from your practice, like good health, vitality, mental clarity...it surely is worth the time.
If you get little or no benefits, maybe you can spend your time wiser. But if you enjoy it, why not?
The outcome depends on the art and your skill in applying the art. At a beginners level, the outcome might be very small, because the skill is low.
But if you have confidence in the art and in your Sifu, you should put in some time and effort. Then your skill will grow and therefore the benefits you will get will grow too.
Is it worth it? I think everybody should decide for themselves.
Mark-):
Even small steps at the beginners level can bring you a huge step forward in your quality of life.
It depends on the perspective.
David Langford:
Is that so?
Joy can open your heart.
And I think it gives you some energy.
But is it really the way to overcome suffering? Or is it just 'a positive emotion'?
Maybe we can start another thread about this topic.
I has the correct answer, and also the wrong answer, but I'm curious about how others will respond to this very interesting statement/question. Please do start a new thread.
For me to practice chi kung is not a waste of time at all. In fact looking at it with sifu´s insight chi kung practice improves time in many ways like:
Preventing our time from shortening by eliminating the disease.
Allowing us to use our time, not only exist, by increasing vitality.
Increasing the time available to us thanks to the cultivation of longevity.
Allowing us to get the most out of our time by cultivating our mental clarity and peak performance.
Transforming the quality of our time and expand our "normal" time to infinite time in spiritual cultivation.
It´s amazing and interesting for me to perceive that this benefits not only happens to us as individuals but also happens to millions or even billions of our cells, molecules and atoms that enjoy these benefits daily as micro individuals.
I think practicing chi kung is never a waste of time. Even when the practice session is not mind blowing or even special, after every chi flow you feel better than before the chi flow.
For me, it’s actually the normal, down to earth practice sessions I enjoy the most.
Regular chi kung practice brings energy, health, clarity and joy. How could it be a waste of ones time?
