  • "Lifting The Sky" technique.

    Hello all.

In "The Art of Chi Kung - Revised Edition" it explains to:

"Bring your arms in an arc forward and upward so that the palms, still at right angles, now face skyward. Breathe in gently through your nose as you do so. Look up at your hands."

However, all the demonstration videos show Grandmaster Wong look down at his hands and then continue to follow them, with his face, as he arcs them.

Could someone please clarify whether I'm to maintain a neutral neck and then look up once my hands are overhead, or to arc my neck and hands simultaneously.

    Thanks,
    Eric.

    Hi Eric,

A picture is worth more than thousand words. A demonstration even more.

You can follow the procedure you saw in the videos.

But even more important is to follow our three golden rules of practice:
    - Don't worry! (about the form for example)
    - Don't intellectualize!
    - Enjoy your practice!

By the way, it would be even better to experience the demonstration first hand in person. So, watch out for Sifu's upcoming courses!

    Best wishes,

      Hello Sifu Leo,

      Thank-you for your advice.

Could you please answer one more question for me (or simply tell me if it is just needless intellectualization)?

I was advised by Sifu Andrew to practise only "Lifting The Sky" - am I to follow this with a period of standing meditation, or simply perform the exercise - morning and night - and move on?

Also, I am doing my best to save for a course in the near future - I have my second child due in six weeks so finances are a little short.

      Kind regards,
      Eric.

        Hi Eric,

Smile from the heart and perform Lifting the sky 15-20 times in a relaxed manner. Afterwards keep standing for a while and just enjoy being. Then complete with a facial massage ("washing the face").

        Enjoy!

        Best wishes,

          lifting the sky

          Hello,

I recently met with the exercise lifting the sky.
I became interested in the exercise.

          I have a question

whether it be doing the exercises so that
          do 10 to 15 movements
and then after that just to walk briskly.
          only to do nothing more.

whether it is properly implemented if it gets done
and if he can produce some unintended consequences?

I do not have the opportunity to learn from an experienced coach.

the only source is the Internet and your site.

I use google translator I hope you understand my question.

          Thanks for your reply.

            Dear Eda,

Although the translation is not perfect, I think I understood your point.

My last post was already a good explanation:

Smile from the heart and perform Lifting the sky 15-20 times in a relaxed manner. Afterwards keep standing for a while and just enjoy being. Then complete with a facial massage ("washing the face").
There are no unintended consequences to expect. But also, there are not many positive effects to expect, if you just practice the exercise without learning from a competent instructor first. There is much more to it than just performing the outward form.

The best you can do is to make an effort to meet one of our instructors or to attend the Intensive Chi Kung course of our grandmaster (23rd to 27th November 2016, Copthrone Orchid Hotel, Penang, Malaysia).

In the meantime enjoy the exercise for fun!

            Best wishes,

            Leo
