  • Special Weapons Course 2016

As there is almost only two months to the Weapons Course, I thought it would be fun to know how everyone is preparing for the course.

Have you learned the sets yet (7 in all, excluding the Three-Sectional Soft Whip)?
    What are you practicing with?
Do you have the weapons for yourself?

As I just bought the plane tickets, I realized I have 8 weeks to learn the rest 6 sets ( I only have the staff set down)...
I think I'll have a brain fry before the actual course..

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

    Best wishes,

    Nessa

    Dear Family ,

Roseline and I will not be able to attend the course but will be there only at the last day . But the Sabah contingent in the form of Sifu Mark Blohm and Sifu Bernie will be there !

Nevertheless I have taught Bernie and Roseline the staff set and soon the sabre set

The SW Sabah kwoon is at the 2 nd floor of my clinic : so immediately after work , in my clinic uniform , just run up and teach weapons !

So who else is coming to the course

        Dear Nessa Sije,

        Thanks for starting this thread

        Dear Dr Damian Sihing,

Thanks for the lovely photos. They are awesome

I am also in the process of soon finishing the staff and the sabre and going on to the 3rd set - the dragon sword then the spear awaits

My aim is to get acquainted very well with at least four sets.

        Blessings,
        Claude

                Dear brothers and sisters,

It's nice to know who all are coming to this course. And see what you are all up to.

I am just finishing the Sabre set today, only a couple moves to go. I have really enjoyed practicing the staff and sabre sets. Tomorrow begins the sword set. If I'm not mistaken it's the longest one of all the sets. Looking forward to it!

                Best wishes,

Mnemonic diagram or mnemograms to teach 1 weapon set per week : an ad hoc method

..Using mnemograms ( useful during my medical school era ) to quickly teach the routine of a weapon set within 1.5 hours is very useful ...followed by practice x 3

                        Dear Damian Siheng,

Thank you for posting the pictures. They are very inspiring!

My method of learning the sets consists of 'replay and rewind' of Sifu's videos. So practicing with iPhone in hand is sometimes also required.

For practice I have a short staff and long staff. I wish I had a heavier and a lighter version of both, but since time is pressed, i guess it's good to just focus on the routines.

                        Happy training to all!

                          Hi everyone,

Only one more month to go!

I have applied for the course and will book my flight during this week.

In the meantime I have been busy learning the sets.

Weapons have always been my fancy since I started practicing Kung Fu, hence this upcoming course has been on my wish list since I entered Shaolin Wahnam.

I have collected quite some weaponry (some of them from my times in my former school where we used wushu weapons) including:
                          - 2 sabres (and have shredded a few more)
                          - 4 swords (still haven't found the perfect one yet)
                          - 2 staffs (one 240 cm for the Octagonal Staff and one 190/200 cm for Flowing Water Staff, both quite heavy)
                          - 1 three-sectional soft whip (too light, but confirmed okay by Sifu; I haven't used it yet)
                          - 1 Guan Dao which my student, Dimitri, found at an asian market at the Austrian-Czech border, which he took home for me. It can be separated into three parts and has around 10-15 kg which makes a total different experience compared to the wushu style weapons I had practiced with before. Picture below:

Flowing Water Staff and Plum Flower Sabre were already in my repertoire and Sifu was so kind to correct my Traveling Dragon Sword in May.

Sice then I have finished learning the spear set and recently the Guan Dao set.

Yesterday I went through the first 40 seconds of the trident set.

Please admire the authentic, heavy trident I forged yesterday evening:

                          20160531_001316-2.jpg

Soon I will be manufacturing my Crescent-Moon Spear.

The course will be a lot of fun and a dream come true!

Looking forward to meeting my beloved Sifu and Wahnam family soon and to having some joyful weapon sparrings.

                          Best wishes,

Haha, the trident looks quite good, Leo!

I have to admit, I'm a little envious for those who already know sets before hand. I finished learning the staff and sabre, half way through the sword.. At the moment I'm going throught the spear set. It's one set per week.

Luckily my brother lend me a sabre and a wooden sword. Compared to the stick I used to practice with ( on the right), it's a lot better!
