  • Integration of The Shaolin Arts in Your Life : How Does It Benefit You ?

Why did disciples of the old Shaolin Temples practise the Shaolin Arts ? Because it is a means to be the best Scholars , Warriors and Monks ?

Why do we practise the Shaolin Arts ? Because it brings wholesome benefits to ourselves and others ?

I hereby invite our members and friends to share these benefits in their lives :

    1) in the Healing Professions ( aside from Chi Kung Healing ) : eg psychotherapy , tuina , zero balancing , QEA ( quantum energy alignment ) , acupuncture , herbalist , etc

    2) in Other Professions : eg computer programmer , research , dancer , musician , writer , photographer , lawyer , sports , school teacher or lecturer , student , farmer , home maker , chef , driver , trader , mason , etc

    3) in Daily Home Life :eg breathing , walking , talking , sleeping , eating , family life , hobby , etc .

An excellent idea for a thread. I need to think about this a bit, though, as the list could be extremely long just when considering how these Arts have contributed to the evolution of QEA (Quantum Energy Alignment) and my personal path as a professional healer and therapist.

        Creativity

        Dear Damian Siheng,

thank you for starting this thread. It’s an intresting subject and it would be nice to hear from all sorts of professionals from different fields how the Shaolin arts have benefitted them.

I am myself a painter by profession. I gratuated from the Free Art School in Helsinki in 2010.
As for how the Shaolin training has helped in painting, I should say in all aspects; from creativity to the ability to learn new techiques and apply a chi kung state of mind while painting.

I have always thought of painting as a way to talk to God. I think all beings are creative, and meant to share their gifts and talents in this world. When I paint, I feel I can open myself to something much more greater than myself, and just let all ideas and creativity to flow through me. And to the best of ability, to get them appear on the canvas.
Of course, this is not always easy, and sometimes I struggle. But it’s always worth it.
It’s not enough to just see what you want to paint, of course you have to have the skills and the techiques to do it. Just like in kungfu training.

After Shaolin training I have not had any difficulties in coming up with new ideas. Actually, the problem is more of having the time to paint them all. And the pressure of having to have many exhibitions or be ‘famous’ or recognizes has completely vanished and there is just the joy of being able to paint from my heart.

As for family life, health, moving, sleeping etc it seems to flow more naturally the longer I practice.
There are many changes in our family life at the moment and this year seems to change many things for better. It’s intresting to see how it all goes.

        Best wishes,

        Nessa

The Shaolin Arts and My Radiology Clinic

I run two private radiology clinics in the city of Kota Kinabalu , Malaysia . Qualified as a general medical doctor ( 1991 , Brussels ) and specialised as a radiologist ( Kuala Lumpur, 1998 ) . Initiated into the Shaolin Arts by Sifu in 1997 and commenced private clinic practise in 2002 . Clinics open 8am-5pm , 6 days a week with over a dozen employees , at least 40 clients daily . Clinics offer only diagnostic tests ( ie radiological imaging : General radiography ( Xray) , Ultrasound scans , CAT scans , Mammography ) and no therapy.

The Shaolin Arts bring additional benefits to clinic patients , staffs and self aside from the obvious basic benefits ( eg professional income for doctor , professional service for patients , employment for staffs ) .Here follows some true stories of interesting positive experiences …..

            THE CLINIC PREMISE

What is one of the benefit you received when becoming a Shaolin Wahnam student ? Well you are blessed with a Shaolin Wahnam teacher !
The highlight of my 1 st clinic opening in 2002 was the presence of Sifu and my parents ( whom are Sifu’s students ) who prayed and blessed the premise , the staffs , future patients and the congratulatory plaque from global Shaolin Wahnam with Sifu leading all present doing Lifting The Sky and initiating the perpetual good harmonious chi flow in the clinic milieu …..today ( 14 years later ) it is not uncommon for new patients stepping into the clinic to remark along the lines of “ this clinic makes me feel good “ …..even though it’s a diagnostic and not therapeutic clinic ! The feel good effect has transferred to the 2 nd clinic ( about 4 km away ) and the 2 nd Shaolin Wahnam plaque there although Sifu was not present at the opening then ( 2007 ) ! Positive mental affirmations by powerful minds combined with activated chi flow transcends time and space and keeps the premise positively charged ad infinitum ! Hao yun chi : good flow of chi or good luck to health !

            THE CLINIC MEMBERS

            1) From Two , Arise Many : Roseline and I were the only Shaolin Wahnam students in Sabah in 1998 . But subsequently all the clinic directors , managers and almost all employees were inspired by us to start practising chi kung which have improved their health holistically and cured some of serious diseases .One clinic member was cured of severe bleeding peptic ulcer disease without surgery or hospitalisation . Two members were cured of chronic sinusitis , one from chronic migraine and another from heavy menstrual bleeding causing severe anaemia ( Haemoglobin was < 5 g% ! )without blood transfusion . A member who had neurosurgery now leads a normal life with normal blood profile ,not needing hormonal replacement ( despite complete removal of pituitary gland due to tumor ) and no disease recurrence at follow up imaging. Two members healed rapidly ( in about a third of the usual time ) and completely from consumption mainly from chi kung practise ( usually needs at least half a year antibiotherapy ) .

            2) Chi Kung Healing : An employee was once semicomatose and paralysed from severe hemorrhagic stroke and the neurosurgeon advised brain surgery . He however subsequently recovered well enough to resume work without surgery probably due to guided-modified self chi kung practise whilst bed ridden , good thoughts cum remote healing from distant instructors and chi kung healing by me . A clinic manager once suffered from traumatic retinal detachment and told to undergo surgery by the eye specialist but recovered without operation after chi kung healing and self practise .

            3) Smiling from the Heart , Becoming Open Hearted , Peak Performance : With chi kung practise , the clinic directors and managers have become more open-hearted and generous to their subordinate staffs in terms of financial perks , family like material-emotional support , compassionate leaves and have inspired them to become better individuals ( at clinic , at home ) and better team-workers . Many patients have told me directly (or indirectly to their acquaintances who later told me ) that the clinic workers are exceptionally approachable, helpful with explanation , proactive , efficient and compassionate ( even with the occasional rowdy client ) .

            THE PATIENTS AND I

            1) Shaolin Arts gives Vitality :
I now need less sleep , less food ( hence spend less time eating ) and so have more time for other things . More time for family , for teleradiology ( work at home ) , for the discussion forum ( that’s why some of my posts or emails are timed 2 am or 3am ) . Since initiated into chi kung , I have naturally evolved comfortably from a 3-meal /day to a 1-meal/day ( ie only dinner…not bigu exactly  ) person and still maintain ( or even increased ) the same work intensity and quality : having a patient appointment waiting list of at least 1 week , I now work energetically and happily through lunch time and beyond clinic stipulated hours , availing time for clients without prior appointment ( some villagers travel from rural mountains afar with meagre savings to see me due to scarcity of specialist services in Sabah ) . By the way , not too long ago , I was the 1 st Sabahan radiologist and together with 2 other good colleagues were working in a state of about 3 million people ( compare that to e.g Boston district that has over a hundred radiologists ! )

            2) Shaolin Arts brings Efficiency and Speed :
I perform imaging , think , decide and diagnose faster .I also type reports , walk and talk ( coherently , flowingly , audibly ie ) faster . Comparing to myself before initiation into the Arts , I now get an A minus compared to a C previously . However , compared to Sifu ( at least A+++++) , I’m still at C minus with large room for improvement .

            3) Shaolin Demeanour and Rub On Effect :
Somehow , many patients who are very sick or terminally ill ( stage 4 cancer etc ) and their accompanying relatives enter the clinic depressed and slouched but leave the clinic smiling and more upright although no treatments were given ( but only tests were done ) .

            4) Intuitive diagnosis : Not uncommonly , when gazing at a radiological image or chatting with patient pre-imaging , a correct diagnosis will “ pop inside my head ” which was subsequently confirmed by further rationalisation , investigation or post surgery . Possibly my chi kung state of mind tapping into The Universal Mind ?

            5) Automatic scanning : You may have heard of ideomotor or automatic writing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideomotor_phenomenon) . Not commonly , while scanning a patient’s abdomen , my hand ( holding the ultrasound scan probe) will involuntarily jump to an unintended spot where a subtle finding will reveal the diagnosis . Automatic scanning ? Whatever it is , the patient benefits .

            6) Occupational Overuse Syndrome ( OOS ) or Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) : Global research found that 80-90% of professionals who perform ultrasound scanning suffered from musculoskeletal and/or neurological injuries especially at the wrist due to chronic strain . Thanks to skills ( being relaxed , instantaneous change ) and techniques ( posture , flowing ergonomics ) acquired from the Shaolin Arts my limbs and trunks are still healthy despite scanning about 20 patients daily ( that’s about 100 , 000 clients over nearly 2 decades of doing sonography ) .

            7) Shaolin Self Defence for Occupational Hazard : Being a medical doctor is a hazard . Research worldwide showed that doctors suffer more from cancer , OOS/ RSI , psychiatric illness , behavioural problem( suicide , depression , substance abuse , alcoholism , marital ) , infection , etc compared to the general population . Fortunately or luckily , the Shaolin Arts have been a realiable defence for me . As you all know, the Arts leads to a good harmonious flow of chi and hence to good luck . Hao yun chi !

I hope you have enjoyed the stories . If the medical association haul me up for unethical self advertising , I will plead confabulation .

            Cheers with chi !

Wow!! Super-inspirational! As far as I know, I'm a healthy person (and hopefully only getting healthier doing our practice) but I am almost enticed to go in for a scan just to be around the good chi and positivity! haha amazing and far-reaching benefits of the arts and always wonderful to read the ways in which the lives of those exposed to the good flow of energy can be changed or impacted positively

                  Dear Dr Damian Siheng,

Thank you for such inspiring photos and posts!

Of the many benefits I have received from the Shaolin arts, the ability to translate near-simultaneously from English into Japanese is one that I did not expect. Why? Because I have never received schooling in Japan, nor have I ever resided there. Yet, after learning these arts for some time, I discovered that when my heart opened and I felt the joy of translating the words of my Sifu at some courses in Japan, suddenly, the mind cleared and it was easy to translate whatever Sifu was teaching.

Another gift that I have received is 'three new notes' at the top of my vocal register (technically, they would be three semi-tones). Years ago, when I was struggling to open the voice because the top was closed and tight (due to some unknown tension which caused the larynx to 'elevate'), my voice teacher was almost ready to mark down my vocal range as topping out at a C two octaves above middle C. Then, I remembered to 'smile from the heart' and relax deeply. I could feel the energy circulating everywhere, and as I sang, one note, then another note and then another note, appeared. She ended up marking the range from an E below middle C, up to an E flat two octaves above middle C.

I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to Sifu for the transmission of these wonderful arts.

                  From the heart,

I am enjoying this thread, and in particular the stories of Dr Damian and Emiko Sije, because in both cases I speak with a bit of experience.

I did my first Intensive course in beautiful Borneo, but a while before the course, I had developed a lump or lumps in my back. Whilst I hoped it was something like a cyst, I was worried it might be something worse, and that perhaps I should be getting that seen to, rather than jetting across the globe. Dr Damian assured me that he would do a free scan in his clinic, to put my mind at rest either way. By the time I got there, I had decided the lumps could be be caused by any one of a thousand reasons, and wasn't as worried about them, so I didn't ask for the scan, but it was really nice to know the option was there. It was a kind gesture, and an example of the far famed Kissey hospitality.

Another time, I was on a course with Emiko Sije, hosted in Ireland by Joan Sije. I remember it for various reasons, including tips on stance training which I employ to this very day. On the last day of the course, we had a meal and a bit of a party and a sing song. We were all to do a party piece, I very much enjoyed everyone's singing and playing, and after some coaxing I even subjected the attendees to the vocal terrorism that is my own singing. Later on however, Emiko Sije sang a song. I didn't know she was classically trained, and I had never really been a fan of classical music. However, I had never experienced the medium from a distance of a few feet away and I really enjoyed it, I thought she had a wonderful voice. I also remember thinking "I'm glad I didn't have to follow that!" To hear on this thread that part of the magic behind it came from the Shaolin arts is great to hear.

So, thanks to Emiko Sije and Dr Damian!

                      Relaxed Clarity

                      Hey Folks,
I would like to share my experiences of the skills and arts and how they have enhanced qualities in my living and other area's

I practice Tuina and have been fortunate to have trained with skilled masters in the UK. When first starting my training in this I observed that I was for more sensitive and intuitive than many of my counter parts. And as the years have gone by I have noticed that I start to observe patients as they walk right through the door, not by seeing them but listening to how they walk.

This is just the physical aspect, like Dr Damien I will find myself coming to an assessment in the first few minutes, but I will finish of the assessment to establish a baseline, this inevitably confirms my intuition.

On personal level , it is being able to use the ability to continually monitor the smooth flow chi to let me know when things are going smoothly. If something disrupts it then I can normally track this down to an external source or a disruptive pattern in me. This very useful in being able to calibrate and make choices rather than have a reaction

Practicing the Chi Kung makes me more mischievious, which brings a lot of laughter between me and my wife and sometimes it can be to much, but there is still laughter.......as she says "super cute but annoying"

                      Peace

                        A Tough Gig

Marvellous answers so far. Thank you, Damian siheng for starting it.

                        My brief story:

I teach English as a foreign language at an "inner city school" in a foreign country: many poor students from the projects, and from broken homes; a very low graduation rate, a lot of apathy and disinterest; often difficult for teachers to connect to students, and inspire them. It can be, as we say in the business, a tough gig.

I remember asking sifu over dinner for advice about teaching. Sifu's answer was short and simple: "Enjoy your teaching!"

Of course, enjoying my teaching is only the start, but it is a very good start.

                        Off to Class!

                        Yrs.

                            Greater Awareness

Great and interesting thread. Thank you.

For me personally, these arts have delivered and continue to deliver greater awareness.

With greater awareness comes expansion, openness and different perspective. Old patterns drop out of being and no longer play out. New awareness opens me up to ever greater possibilities. It gives me choice over how I think, speak and behave. It creates more efficient learning and greater understanding; greater connection to the world unseen; greater self-mastery; greater enjoyment of life; greater presence; more productive and nourishing relationships; better work performance; emotional stability; mental clarity; greater alignment with the flow of life; health and well being on all levels - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. The list could go on and on.

For me it's about Awareness. Which brings Choice. Enabling Flow. Revealing Dharma. Leading ultimately to Actualisation.

                            What an amazing gift.

Thank you Sifu for sharing these priceless arts.

Love and blessings to the whole family.
With love and Shaolin salute /o

                              I'll keep this short

The Shaolin Arts helped me (re)discover my natural abilities. Through the practice and interactions with the Shaolin Wahnam family, I was able to start to develop the special skills (chi sensing, chi viewing, intuition, energy transmission, etc.... it's a very long list ) I needed to start to work as a healer.

Within the first years of my training, I intuitively created an entire Chi Kung Healing system. Before the first Chi Kung Healing course, I shared a document describing this system with Sifu who kindly and generously confirmed this was indeed real Chi Kung Healing. So, through my practice, I had intuitively rediscovered Chi Kung Healing. But even then, my system had expanded beyond Chi Kung Healing.

As if that wasn't enough, I started to discover new ways of healing. Some were amazingly fast and effective, others were less impressive. Of course, the fast and amazing ones were integrated into the my healing work. The less impressive and, more important, inconsistent or non-reproducible methods were discarded.

From an extensive Chi Kung Healing system, I went on to create a complex healing system that is now know as QEA (Quantum Energy Alginment).

I am certain that I would never have made these discoveries and developments without my Shaolin training. Having loads of energy, a quick and clear mind, intuitive skills and, on some occasions, it feels like divine guidance and information from the Cosmos itself, have lead to QEA being developed. And the development continues.......
