  • What caused "unenlightenment"?

    Hi everyone,

If I am not wrong, Buddhism teaches that when we are enlightened, we realise that we and all the universe are one and the same right? I understand it as there being no difference nor boundaries between our spirits, the air molecules around us, the sound vibrations, etc. and this body and skin barrier is only an illusion (a VERY strong one ) If that is the case, does Buddhism tell what caused our conciousness to separate itself from the universe, and to see itself as an individual in the first place?

It feels like it could be reconciled with the first parts of the bible, where adam and eve ate the fruit of knowledge and suddenly "realised that they were naked" could this be a metaphor for the separation? Or perhaps even earlier on when "god" said "let there be light", light sort of being the prerequisite to sight, which could sort of be linked to illusions. And then everything else followed, the creation of earth and other material things
