      A Poem to Live By

The Old Fool wrapped in ragged clothes,
      His belly filled with gruel,
He mends old sacks to keep him warm
And lives on chance, Old Fool.
A scolding makes the Fool smile sweetly,
      While a beating makes him sleepy;
Spit on his face, he lets it dry
And saves his strength and energy.
His calm, a peace past ridicule
      Gets him the jewel within the wonderful;
Now that you’ve heard this song today
Why worry about not perfecting the Way?

      - Ajita Bodhisattva
Love, and do what you will.

        Hi all!

The topic of changes reminds me of a King Crimson song "Dinosaur". It is a really good song per se, but the lyrics are even better.

Long ago and far away in a different age
when I was a dumb young guy
fossilized photos of my life then
illustrate what an easy prey I must have been
standing in the sun, idiot savant
        something like a monument
I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones

ignorance has alway been something I excel in
        followed by naivete and pride
doesn't take a scientist to see how
any clever predator could have a piece of me
standing in the sun, idiot savant
        something like a monument
I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones

when I look back on the past
        it's a wonder I'm not yet extinct
all the mistakes and bad judgements I made
nearly pushed me to the brink
it doesn't pay to be too nice
it's the one thing I have learned
still, I made my fossil bed
        now I toss and turn

I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones
Does it make you feel really old and experienced now?

            The Spiritual North Star

            I call upon mercy
            For ice on my brow
            It begins to thaw
            Water trickles down
            The side of my jaw

            I call upon mercy
            For heavy shoulders
            Weight starts to lift
            Elation does wonders
            To a heart in swift

            I call upon mercy
            For scales skewed
            Movement steadies
            Balance is renewed
            As intent readies

            I call upon mercy
            For healing means
            Making us intact
            Abiding in peace
            Always having tact

            In mercy I found everything
That I once lost for anything

I had lost everyone for pittance
In mercy I now find abundance

That Special Time of the Year

              leaves fall to the ground
              wind itches curious ears
              autumnal silence

                Lohan on his Way Home

Many years on the pathless road
                Worn shoes and weathered robe
                Yet visiting home wasn't hard
For I ever smiled from the Heart

                      Plato's Death

                      Here lies the undying truth
                      Motionless in an ideal world
                      Long live truth

                        Beginner's Mind: Thinking About Nothing

                        Nada.
                        Nothing.
                        Just nothing.
                        No thoughts arise.
                        Free of all thoughts.
                        I am not thinking anything.
Not even a single thought arises.
My mind is really empty of thoughts.
I am not using my mind in any activity.
No sign of intellectualization, I am free.
I am so thoughtless that I think I am in satori.
Still thinking nothing, la-la la-di-daa, hum, huuuum.
I wonder what is for dinner. I'm hungry. My back itches.
Was that a thought? If another comes I'll be ready to catch.
Did I remember to pick my laundry? It's been a nice weather today.
                        Oh, wait.

                          Sweet and Sentimental

                          When we grow old
                          It won't get cold
                          Hearts need reprise
                          Time for a surprise
                          A box full of confections
                          To share my affection
A card to the love of mine
                          Will you be my valentine?
