I will be nosing around Penang the day before Dragon Strength (I land on the Friday night) and I would dearly love to visit some fabulous tea shops to drink some fabulous tea.
I would very much appreciate any suggestions people may have.
Many thanks in advance,
Kevin
PS And oh yes - there is also an open invite to anyone who also wishes to drink fine teas and savour the adventure that awaits us!
I know there is a good one that we always visited. I think I have their business card somewhere, so I will check. Otherwise Siheng Riccardo will know, he was quiet famous in their for his Italian humour.
Yes, we'll be arriving on Saturday, but I doubt we'll go shopping that day. But later when there's shopping between the course we'll be going to hunt some tea.
I think it was Wei Foong Sije who knows a lovely shop in Penang that specialises in pu-erh tea, but also has other varieties. Visited it a few years back, absolutely worth the visit.
Nessa and I are definitely going, we can hitch a ride together.
I went to a truly amazing shop with Chun Nga Sihing a few years back. He's a wealth of knowledge about tea, and tea shops, and I'm sure he would also have great suggestions.
I think it took two hours to get out of that tea shop, the owner had so many teas to try! I still have a few pounds of tea left I brought home so much.
Dear Family, I would like to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to Sipak Chun Nga for very kindly going well out of his way to drive a number of us to a fabulous tea shop in Penang on the forth day of the course. We had an absolutely fabulous time, and in the case of the last tea we sampled - the 'smoked tea' - one could say we had a blast!
I had imagined the trip to the shop was simply to purchase stuff, but on arrival the resident Tea Master in the shop (who owns the place) sat us down and spoke with us for well over two hours on all matters tea related. He talked about the different types of tea and why they are different, how each should be prepared, and how each can be used multiple times giving subtly different flavours and aromas etc. Most importantly though he gave us about 20 cups of delicious tea!
While my favourite was the first green tea he gave us (which I subsequently purchased) the most memorable was the smoked tea - oh yes, a powerful tea indeed!
Many thanks to Sipak Chun Nga. And many thanks also to Markus, Nessa and George, my tea drinking buddies for the morning!!
Awesome pictures and info..thanks so much for posting
We missed the tea shop this time but it is in our agenda the next time we visit Penang
Blessings,
Claude
Love is wonderful, because anyone with love in his heart wants to see everyone in bliss, everyone healthy and everyone availing freedom. This is the state of a man who considers the world as his family. Such are the wise man, the great souls. (Shri Shantananda Saraswati)
Yes, thank you Chun Nga Siheng for taking us to the lovely tea shop. It was an experience I'll never forget.
What was most intresting, as we were in the middle of the Dragon Strength course and very attuned to energy, to feel the difference of green, red, black and smoked tea and how the different teas affected our chi flow. In the end, after two hours of tea tasting we were all quite wired, flowing with tea chi.
So much fun!
Mr. Lim (I think that was his name?) really is a Tea Master. I had the pleasure of being instructed by him and his wife twice while in Penang last week.
First day was "kindergarten level" and second day was "secondary school level". He said if I do my homework maybe next time he can teach me the next level.
His wife actually suggested that if we get a small group together (no more than 10) then we could come along with them on one of their trips to China to buy tea from the suppliers. I wish I had the time off work to do this, but if anyone else is interested maybe you can speak to Chun Nga Sipak about taking them up on their offer?
