  • 30 minutes a Day for May

    Dear All,

    Thanks to Sijat Dominic's excellent thread "The benefits I have gained from practicing sequence 7 daily" I have been inspired to set a training objective for myself for the month of May;

30 Minutes a Day for May

    - 15 minutes of stances, flexibility, chi flow and zen in the morning
    - 15 minutes of sets and sequences, chi flow and zen in the evening

Totalling 30 minutes per day, every day for the month of May (I'm a poet and don't you know it ).

Feel free to make up your own routine, but ensure yin-yang harmony of static and dynamic elements of our Shaolin and Taijiquan.
    • So, who want's to join in?

-> It should fit nicely into preparation for Summer Camp

If you do, post in this thread each day if you achieve your goal of 30 minutes of training on that particular day. Post inspiring quotes, interesting stories, or challenges, feedback and results of the practice. Should make for an active and interesting thread and supportive goal-orientation

    Happy Spring Training

    May training

    Sounds fun, I'll join in!

This is a good opportunity to start something I've been practicing on and off for the beginning of this year: sparring.

My daily practice now is 30 minutes in the morning ( chi kung, internal force, taijiquan set, flexibility and combat sequences. 15 minutes of chikung at night.

So, the practice bonus for this month is sparring 15 minutes with a partner or an imaginary partner daily.

    Happy training!

                Benefits of sparring

30 days have gone by. Not all of them were used for sparring, but here are a few benefits I experienced sparring with a partner, and also without:
                - More confidence: no matter how you spar, I always feel stronger after sparring
                - the benefits on combat sequence training: once I started sparring, it made practicing combat sequences come alive. It's easier to imagine/visualize the opponent and practice sequences as if with a partner

As for sparring, I find sparring with a real partner so beneficial and fun. Time always flies by, you don't get tired and don't want to stop. But I find that 15 minutes is good per day.
Practicing with an imaginary partner has many benefits too, most of them come alive when practicing with someone, and suddenly those sets you have been practicing come alive in real contact.

                So, must continue!

                Best wishes,

                Nessa

                    Dear Family,

I was not able to practice every day, twice a day, for fifteen minutes, but am happy with my practice, nevertheless. In contrast to this recent "failure," I have used other methods for systematically regulating my practice, methods I found more successful than this last one. More on that later.

                    Thanks, Andy, for your efforts.

                    For Now,

It's been good to have company on the journey -- thanks Sije and Sihing!

My experiences mirror yours - I'll post more on the Shaolin Kung Fu thread.

To set aims and objectives is actually one of the top open secrets of our school. Exactely because it's so obvious, many people don't see how important it is. Even we from the Shaolin Wahnam family sometimes forget to set (new) aims and objectives. It can't be repeated enough!
