Hi everyone,
I'm Ted, a relatively long-time practitioner of Chinese Martial Arts, with experience in Shaolin Paochui, Chen family Taijiquan and Yip Man style Wing Chun. My first art is Paochui, which I have taught on and off to a small but dedicated private class for the last 15 years or so. I consider myself fortunate to have been granted my 7th duan black sash (Qing Long) early last year (I know belt rankings in CMA aren't for everybody).
Although I never studied Shaolin Wahnam under Grandmaster Wong or any of his students, I found his books in the late 90s and have considered him one of my favourite martial arts authors ever since. Particularly, his 'Complete book of Tai Chi' helped illuminate many points of study for me, not only when studying Chen (and later some Wu) but in regards to Chinese martial arts in general.
As well as the Chinese arts, I have studied little bits of other systems -- A few months of Jujitsu and Kickboxing, a year or so of WW2 era CQC, a couple years Aiki-jujitsu etc. I have (like most of you, I'm sure) a vast martial arts library at home consisting of literally hundreds of books and dvds.
I'm also a Qi Gong practitioner having experience in traditional Buddhist and Taoist systems, as well as Mantak Chia's sexual Qi Gong system (although I am admittedly self-taught in Chia's system). Spiritually I have a fairly broad range of interests, and am initiated into the Nath Sampradaya (a traditional form of Hindu tantra). I also studied religious traditions in the modern world at university, as part of my undergraduate degree.
Apart from the above, I'm a professional writer (I work in advertising) and an amateur musician (I sing and play guitar, as well as write music), I'm deeply interested in philosophy, and a member of the International Society for Philosophical Enquiry. I'm also a happily married man.
I signed up some time ago, but haven't been here for a while as real life got a little complicated this past year. So this 'hello' is a little late.
Anyway, great to be here and thanks for having me,
Ted
