  • Does anyone recognize this form?

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I found this really cool display on Youtube. I personally have never seen it before, but it looks more Northern Shaolin to me ^^

If anyone can tell me more about it I would appreciate it.

    Best,

    Dear Ray,

On the video clip, he is practicing "Fanziquan" (or "Faan Ji Kyun" in Cantonese). The Chinese characters for "Fanziquan" are "翻子拳". It literally means "roll over - child - fist".

I am uncertain of its origins, but I believe that it is closely link to "Tongbeiquan" as I have heard that "Fanziquan" is short for "Tongbei Fanzi Quan". So, "Fanziquan" may have originated from "Tongbeiquan". As you correctly stated, it does come from Northern Shaolin.

    Best wishes,
    Mike
