In this book ( linked above ) biophysicist Prof Dr Changlin Zhang provides a scientific basis for the success behind alternative therapies such as acupuncture, qigong, Ayurveda, and other traditional therapies in an illuminating discussion that explains the efficacy of these approaches in treating a number of chronic conditions. Underlining how public perception of acupuncture has shifted over the last few decades from one of skepticism to one of acceptance, he explores the progression of acupuncture research from its unsuccessful beginnings to the ultimate discovery of a scientific basis for therapies centered on the subtle coherence patterns of interacting electromagnetic waves and fields. He explains the dissipative structure of electromagnetic waves that constitutes our electromagnetic body and describes how changes in our mood, lifestyle, and environment affect it.

Invisible Rainbow explains these developments within the context of science's parallel development from its nineteenth-century focus on materialism, reductionism, and closed systems to its realization of the mass-energy equivalence, electromagnetic field, and its study of open complex systems. Discussing differences in Eastern and Western thought traditions and how they influence their respective medical systems, it also elucidates acupuncture's meridian system and Ayurveda's chakras and auras.

      Overview

This unique book https://www.danielbenor.com/healing-research brings you a light summary of a comprehensive survey of scientific research on spiritual healing from around the world. Spiritual healing is used as a generic term for hand-healing (without massage or pressure) and healing through meditation, mental intent or prayer. Common methods included are Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, Reiki, Qigong and more.

The popular edition focuses on what healers say they do and how they do it, with a lighter review of the research, without the statistical analyses. The professional supplement is for readers who want to see research confirming that these methods really work, with all of the statistical details.

          Biophoton : a manifestation of chi .

Quoted from wikipedia .." Prof . Fritz Popp was born in 1938 in Frankfurt. His first diploma was in Experimental Physics (1966, University Würzburg), followed by the Röntgen-Prize of the University Würzburg, Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics (1969, University Mainz). Habilitation in Biophysics and Medicine (1973, University Marburg). Prof. Popp rediscovered and made the first extensive physical analysis of "Biophotons". He was awarded Professorship (H2) by the Senate of Marburg University, and lectured at Marburg University from 1973 to 1980. He was Head of a research group in the Pharmaceutical Industry in Worms from 1981 to 1983 and Head of a research group at the Institute of Cell Biology (University of Kaiserslautern) from 1983 to 1986 and of another research group at the Technology Center in Kaiserslautern.

Popp became an Invited Member and of the New York Academy of Sciences and an Invited Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS). Popp is the founder of the International Institute of Biophysics in Neuss (1996), Germany, an international network of 19 research groups from 13 countries involved in biophoton research and coherence systems in biology "

          Biophotonic Science – The History

It has been scientifically documented that every cell in the body emits more than 100,000 light impulses or photons per second. These light emissions, which are not only emanated by humans but by all living things, are called biophotons and have been found to be the steering mechanism behind all biochemical reactions.
Russian scientist and professor, Alexander G. Gurwitsch first discovered biophotons and the morphogenetic field in 1923, but called these bits of light by a different name. Additional research in the 1970s by experimental and theoretical scientists further suggested that biophotons were indeed real. Then, in 1974 the German biophysicist Fritz-Albert Popp, proved their existence, as well as their origin within our DNA and later their coherence, much like light in a laser. From this varied research, biophoton theory has evolved to its present day science.

Quoted from an interview ( linked below ) with Prof Dr Bruce Pomeranz in 1996 ...

            AT:
But, as you said, the failure of research on chi doesn't mean that acupuncture doesn't work. I think that's a great distinction.

Pomeranz: That's right. You shouldn't confuse theory with empiricism. Max Planck, who discovered quantum mechanics, said that a new idea will not win by the strength of its arguments; it will only win when the old generation dies out and the new generation accepts it as fact. That's what happened in quantum mechanics. When Heisenberg and Bohr were talking about it, everybody said they were nuts-it couldn't be; but the old generation died and the young kids said, "It's crazy, but it works. We'll accept it."

It's the same thing in alternative medicine. We say, "Homeopathy can't be." Then some young physicians say, "Reilly did some convincing double-blind studies. The next thing they're trying it and doing it and laughing all the way to the bank because it's working.

It's difficult to live through change. Change comes very slowly, but it comes. Thank goodness for the Office of Alternative Medicine: that's progress. That was unthinkable 5 years ago. The FDA recently took acupuncture needles out of the "experimental" category and legitimized it in America. There are now over 1 million acupuncturists outside China, and that number is growing So we're moving, however inexorably slowly, in the right direction.

Quoting Prof Dr Kwang-Sup Soh https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soh_Kwang-sup ... "The ISPS 2010 is devoted to topics related to biomedical findings on Primo-System (PS) that is an anatomical structure corresponding to acupuncture meridians. Bong-Han Kim in 1960s had claimed to discover this new, web-like vascular system. Unfortunately, his research results were not reproducible by others because he did not reveal the dye used in his study and thus neglected for a long time. In 2002, at the Seoul National University, an intensive reinvestigation on PS was launched utilizing modern biomedical imaging techniques. Kim‟s claims were confirmed and further functional aspects of PS in the areas of regenerative medicine and cancer have been uncovered. These research results have shown that PS may have great potential of changing paradigm of medicine, revealing the mechanisms of traditional oriental medicine practiced for thousand years..."

Professor Vitaly Vodyanoy, a native of Russia, is professor of anatomy and physiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine of Auburn University, Alabama, in the United States of America. Vodyanoy proposes that acupuncture and laser acupuncture activate the Primo Nodes of the Primo Vascular System (PVS), and trigger the release of “stem cells that flow to organs where they replace injured cells and become organ cells.”

Auburn University Professor Vitaly Vodyanoy has used his patented microscopy system to confirm the existence of a primo-vascular system that could provide a scientific foundation for acupuncture and other treatments such as osteopathic manipulation.
Acupuncture has been shown to be an effective treatment for endometriosis. Acupuncture works by balancing the flow of energy (Ki or Qi) throughout the body.

Quoted from the conference report :

From June 23 to June 25, 2000, over 500 enthusiastic scientists and scholars descended on the picturesque campus of The Pennsylvania State University for a unique scientific conference on qigong health practices and the bigu phenomenon. The Conference was sponsored by the STS (Science, Technology and Society) Program of Penn State, the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine, Friends of Health (an organization championing the cause of all integrative medicine), etc. The Conference is considered a historical event in world qigong scientific research development as it was the first of its kind for the new millennium in which the Western scientific community systematically introduced the “bigu” phenomenon of Yan Xin Qigong to the public. The Conference was also viewed as the launching of a scientific discourse between Eastern and Western philosophical and scientific systems that will add significantly to human health and world peace.

The most intriguing, first time ever, public presentation was the extraordinary phenomenon called “bigu” (without food). Many of the Yan Xin Qigong
practitioners find themselves in this state where they do not need to eat solid food at all for days, weeks, months or even years. The Conference had over 100 attendees who had experienced this state while maintaining more than normal active professional lives in U.S. Over a dozen persons were present who had not eaten solid food for 5-10 years. Large groups of scientists, doctors, both Chinese and Western, reported on their own experiences with bigu.

The Conference attracted many senior scientists who commented on the relationship to current scientific paradigms: Prof. Rustum Roy, the organizer of the Conference, founding director of Penn State’s Materials Research Laboratory and a member of the National Academies of the U.S., Sweden, Japan, India, and Russia; Prof. Hans-Peter Duerr, past director of the Max-Planck Institute of Theoretical Physics in Munich (Albert Einstein was its first director), successor and colleague of Werner Heisenburg (a father of quantum mechanics); Prof. Della M. Roy, materials scientist, member of the National Academy of Engineering; Prof. Larry Brown, member of the National Academy of Sciences; Prof. Jerry Worlf, Harvard Medical School; Prof. Joie Jones, professor of radiology, University of California at Irvine; and Dr. Johanne Boisvert, program manager of Quebec’s Agriculture Department, Canada. The majority of the attendees had advanced degrees in science and technology, including over 150 PhD’s.

Quoted from the book by one of the greatest contemporary chi kung master , Grandmaster Sifu Dr Yan Xin

                            Scientific Nature of Qigong

Due to the successful scientific qigong experiments in
China, more and more educated individuals,
                            professionals, intellectuals, professors from various
fields, and people from different religious communities
                            have become interested in qigong.

How Does Qi Relate to Science, and What Do Leading
                            Scientists Think about Qi?

Several universities in China have been conducting research
on the application of scientific methods in studying qigong. A
considerable number of scientists, including some famous ones,
are exploring this subject.A number of experts and highly accomplished professors
have recognized some of these scientific qigong experiments.

Preliminary observations and reports on scientific qigong
experiments suggest the following conclusions about qi, and are
supported by many professors: qi can be observed, measured and
quantified by precise instruments; qi has the properties of
matter; qi has the properties of energy; qi conveys
comprehensive information content, or has the characteristics
of information; preliminary results reveal that qi, emitted by
the human body to achieve certain effects, is subject to the
regulation and influence of human thoughtsand is influenced or
disturbed by the emotions of the participants of an experiment,
as well as the experimental design and environment.
