  • Alien Hand Syndrom

    Dear Family,

this might be a tricky question, but since it is a Forum for Chinese Medicine, I shall post it.

I have met a person with Alien Hand Syndrome. He cannot controll his left hand.
Example: He pays in a store with his right hand and his left hand takes the money back.

    Further informations here:

It is sad, because the conventional medicine is unable to handle such a desease.
The anatomical facts behind are known from MRT pictures and other tests. Hence TCM is a different system, it is not necessary to explain them.

    Now the question:

How would a Traditional Chinese Practinioner handle Alien Hand Syndrome?
If there are many ways, please tell me one example.

    Greetings, Anton.

    TCM Diagnosis

    Dear Anton,

you asking for an idea in the way TCM would handle the Syndrom.
I just can only say a TCM practioner can´t say anything real about it without to see the patient.
There is one saying in TCM: " Same Syndrom different treatment" that means a correct individual diagnosiss is needed before a answer can be given.
    May all beings be happy

I watched a documentary about this. The cause of the syndrom in the person documented was dameged connections between his left and right brain lobes. Your right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. The connections from the right side of the brain to the left were damaged and his left side seemed to have a mind of it's own sometimes. Some people with alien hand syndrom would wake up with their hand would be choking them. Some would try to stab them selves and other could be walking through the super marcket and the hand would be picking objects off the shelves repeatedly. They were talking about theories to why some hands seem to be evil and others not. They were explaining that such a side of the brain is linked to the creative aspect and the other side is linked with the logical aspect. The side of the brain with the creative imagination aspect could come out in the out of control hand. It seems as though the hands function reflects hidden aspects of the person.

I'd be curious if Hypnosis could help with that. Sounds like it has something to do with Conscious, Sub Conscious and maybe the Super Conscious mind...?

To me the question would be:
What does he cut out of his life? Why does he live "two lifes"? Which severe events did he suffer (even in his childhood) that he had to suppress? It could even be very severe events, as psychical or physical violence ...
(I do not pretend it IS this way. But - I believe that every physical illness has its roots in the psyche, and this has very very often to do with childhood.)

              Thank you Taisipak.
I am just about to join a "TCM fundamentals" course to which I was invited. Some of the modules seem to be structured very much around syndromes/illnesses as identified by western medical science, which surprised me a bit. I will keep this in mind :
