Dear Anton,
You were correct about the addition of a pattern in the Dragon Strength Set. It was "Fierce Tiger Pushes Mountain", after "Catch Tiger in Mountain", "Sun-Character Thrust Fist" (called "Black Tiger Steals Heart" in Uncle Righteousness' lineage) and "Hide Flowers in Moon", and before "Old Eagle Catches Snake".
There was no special name for the unicorn step. It was a transitional movement.
For most outer practitioners, the punch in "Sun-Character Thrust Punch" and "Hide Flowers in Moon" is a linear forward movement from the shoulder. For us it is slightly circular so as to explode force from the dan tian.
To make things simple, it is easier to use the routine of the Dragon Strength Set shown in my video as the standard version. This additional pattern at the second of the two Dragon Strength Courses was a bonus to highlight the rotation of the waist in exploding force.
"Fierce Tiger Pushes Mountain" is a very important pattern in Shaolin Kungfu in fa-jing or exploding force. When I learned this pattern in my early years in Uncle Righteousness' school, I heard of the expression that force comes from the dan tian aidded by the rotation of the waist. But I was not able to accomplish this skill until much later when I practiced Taijiquan.
So this pattern, "Fierce Tiger Pushes Mountain", was added during the second Dragon Strength course to highlight this important point. However, "Fierce Tiger Pushes Mountain" is already found after the second "ta-chong" (force training while on stance), but here force is exploded from the shoulder, after a practitioner has progressed to an advanced level to prepare for later development where force is exploded from the wrist and then finger.
Best regards,
Sigung.
