  • What does move??? (zen story)

It is been said that three monks are watching a tree moving with the wind in the middle of the prairie:

First monk says: "What moves is the wind"...
Second monk says: "What moves is the leaves"...
Third monk says: "What moves is our mind"...

Zen story collected by the argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges.-

      Zen story

I was told a Zen story of two Monks who had to cross a river and in seeing a woman who could not cross alone one Monk had carried her on his back through the river to the other side. She walk away. The other Monk asked the Monk who had helped her "You know that Monks are to stay away from woman" the Monk replied "Is she here now"

I know its second hand info so if anyone reading this post knows a more accurate version of this story please tell it to us....

The version I heard of Lights story about the two monks and the woman has a different ending. The monk who carried the woman says:

"I put the woman down on the riverbank but you're still carrying her"

Jorge Luis Borges is brilliant. His work Labyrinths is a modern classic and well worth reading (hold tight onto your brain if you do )

        Regards,
        Chris.

          attitudional and behavioural awareness

The second one pertaining to the two monks and the woman is usually told to a group/individual who exhibit a certain way of understanding and then questions are usually asked to see if there is a parallel to a present dynamic operating. The essence is usally the same though the points may change but essentially many do not recognize their oen face and attempt to throw if off (projection) and put blame on everyone but themselves.
These teaching stories are the template upon which, if one is self directed. s/he can see true tantra with limited external teaching. Awareness and self discipline are the goals.
