Hi Folks,
I have just discovered this thread. And my what a discovery.
I am taking my time in reading this as it has a lot to offer me in terms of skills and insight for my vision..........
Here is a wonderful quote from Sifu, which I found to fit this thread perfectly:
“…We train our arts not to become famous, but to have good health, vitality, longevity, mental clarity and spiritual joys, as well as to make our life and the lives of other people rewarding…”
Training the combat aspect of internal martial arts like Wahnam Taijiquan and Shaolinquan gives us experiential clarity of one important end of the continuum between the Monk and the Warrior within. And to frequently travel that continuum from end to end through our practice allows us to gain perspective about real freedom of choice:
The basic idea then is not to get stuck in either end of said continuum or to try to find a mid point – a dry average point that kills the complete existence of a myriad of free choices on the whole path. The idea here is to acquire the clarity of mind and conscious presence to choose the appropriate thought, word and/or action for each situation, for each interaction - It is sometimes the Warrior within who needs to come out and act with force and precision, it is sometimes the Monk within who needs to step out and mediate with profound compassion and vulnerability, it is also sometimes the Warrior-Monk in all the possible combinations of manifestation who needs to arise to adapt to each situation differently “making our life and the lives of other people rewarding”.
Then freedom of choice and construction of full-value can play together in harmony.
