  • strong chi flow

last night i was doing lifting the sky for about 30 reps ..... i couldn't stop cause it felt so good .
when i stoped an relaxed for the chi movement , it started staright away and got very strong , back and forth , back and forth ....!!
it got so strong it almost knocked me over , lost balance and opened my eyes for a second ,... i quickly calmed my mind and told my mind that the sudden jolt did not harm me , or breeak my consentration ....
i then went back into my chi flow ,... and relaxed straight way ... !!

i also noticed then when i rubb my eyes after building alot of chi , i get a strong white light beam into my eyes as i go to rub them , its very strange.

just wanted to share my experience.

Hello Classic, glad to hear you’re enjoying your practice and getting good results.

    Just a couple of comments…

I understand your enthusiasm, but stick to what Sifu taught you at the course (10-20 repetitions; after some time you will probably be able to generate a chi flow with fewer repetitions)

This is a very common reaction in beginner students. It sounds like you’re unconsciously tensing when your chi flow reaches a certain level. If you relax and let go a little more, you won’t lose your balance. Be aware that you’re in control of your chi, not the other way round, so while you may end up on the ground, it can’t ‘knock you over’. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, just tell yourself gently to slow down.

This may seem a point of semantics but the state of mind you should be aiming for is ‘relaxed and focused’, not ‘concentration’; again this sounds like you’re holding onto some mental tension.

Hello classic!Nice to hear your experience.Im particularly interested in your comment on the light beam when you move to rubbing your eyes. When I do this, I see a sort of simetrical lightning bolt kinda shape. Its very wierd. Is that kind of like what your meaning?

        hi christian

        kinda .....
but no so much a bolt of ligthing in any shape , its more just a birght pure white light , the whitest light possible that covers my hole eyes when my palms first reach my eyelids , it only last's a second which is why i say its like a bolt of light being shot into my eyes .....

is that like what you have experience or is yours different ...??

          hmmmm?

Well im not sure.I think i may have experienced something like that a while ago but, as im sure its not possible to fully understand other peoples experiences, im not sure if its possible to even know.My experience is more like a lightning bolt but, thin and jagged, but dont get me wrong, its not that dramatic.ha ha.Merely a little detail I cant help but notice.Probably should'nt ponder over it.

            Hey guys,

At the London workshop, and each of the chi kung courses at Summer Camp, Sifu emphasised the following advice (one of the 'golden rules of three'):

            Don't worry
            Don't intellectualise
            Enjoy your practice

            That's an example of intellectualising

I'd say, if you see a symmetrical lightning bolt shape, that's fine.

If you don't see a symmetrical lightning bolt shape (or anything at all) that's also fine.

Enjoy such experiences by all means (you can take them as a little extra confirmation that you're practicing genuine, high level chi kung), but they're still a side effect, rather than the reason why you practice.

A less spectacular, but more reliable benchmark of progress is feeling fresh and energised after your practice session.

            All the best,

            Fleur

Thanks for the info fleur.I assure you Im not really bothered bout it.Just thought it might be relevant to this thread and I rarely feel I have much to contribute to the forum anyway.I think for me its kinda the opposite to not intellectualising.Posting or reading posts always makes me think.Maybe once I start to progress,I will find it easier.Anyway Ill keep in touch with everyone now and then.he he

Sorry, Christian, I've been away and didn't spot your reply.

You started to progress when you began your training. Actually, your second post here shows a progression in understanding, so please don't hold back from contributing.

Your experiences seeing bright light are also a sign of progress. It's just that you will progress further, faster, if you don't get too attached to them - as you realised anyway. Well done

                All the best,

                    Dear Classic,

30 reps isn't so extreme, of course, but like Fleur said, do what your Sifu tells you, not more, not less.

In a more extreme example, a new friend, who I met in the Swiss mountain retreat, did pushing mountains for 10 minutes (), because he couldn't feel his chi. He thought nothing happend, but that night and the next day, he had such extreme pain in his chest, that he thought he was going to have a heart attack. He even went to the hospital (but was ok in the end).

This reminds me of what my Sifu said: The program is thousands of years old, you don't need to think or change it. (And thinking that you can improve it would just be crazy.)

I know you wouldn't go so far, but I wanted to prevent anyone who reads this from thinking: "cool, I'm going to do 30 reps too!"

                    Jim
Sigung: This is a great exercise for women, because it makes them beautiful and radiant.
Student: And what does it do for men?
                    Sigung: It makes women beautiful!
                    Smile from the heart!
